Has anyone tried First Step SA for a pulling G? I recall a long time ago hearing some people saying it didn't work well and actually screwed up the blocking paths, and others said no, it works great. Does anyone have an opinion on this?

Pretty sure it was LT that some people suggested having First Step messed up blocking assignments, as for pulling G it's a must imo and it works great.

Thanks. I must've been confusing that with the OT. One more thing; for a 2nd additional SA for a G, would you get Pummel or Aura of Intimidation? AoI seems best to me since it might be able to affect the entire Offensive line rather than just the player he is blocking, but I've never used it so I really don't know what to expect.

Fwiw... I'm with drewd. On an OT, 1st Step sometimes causes an OT to "jump" backwards which can allow the DE a straight shot at the QB. On an OG though, not only does it help with pulling, but it also gives an inertia bonus on regular run blocking. It was the go-to bonus SA before morale draining came into fashion.

If your deciding between Aoi and Pummel, consider what's going on around you. Does the C have Aoi? Does the OT? If yes, then Pummel is the more powerful attack. If no, then Aoi helps everyone around you by a little.

I guess I am confused on this point, and I can't find the answer anywhere. Does only one player's AoI trigger during a play? If so, it wold definitely be best to decide with my brother which players should get it on our team so we don't waste SAs.

Aoi is an 'effect other' SA, unlike Field General which is an 'effect yourself/teammates' SA. The more Aoi you have on your team, the more likely it will effect more of the defenders but I'm more than willing to bet it does NOT stack... meaning if you have 4 dots with Aoi around one defender he does NOT take 4x the effect.... but rather it has 4 times the chance that it fires and that at least ONE of the dots with Aoi will effect those around him. You can have many dots with Aoi and it might fire for several of those dots but it will only effect the opponents' dots within their area of influence. And it won't effect anyone on the same team (as the dot with the Aoi) and, as an SA, it's one that is pushed pretty hard by many coaches/builders/team owners.

Hope that helps.

agreed

it is why you see run heavy teams with AOI, Pummel and Pancake (and Run Block) SA's heavily invested in along with the Showboat Blocker, Over Power and Power Blocker VA's

Just grind the DL into the ground

I am putting AoI on my Center (who is actually the OP's cat) so the question now is deciding
Is it better to have many bites at the AoI bit or one good chance at AoI and the other guys using Pummel...

This might help me figure that out:
does anyone know if Intimidating works on offense?
If so, that might make me weigh towards going all out AoI with the Center
and telling my team to stick with the pummels and pancake enhancers
thanks in advance and everything

Yes it works on offense. And also see above posts by Reddog and me as to putting it on more than one dot.

I think First Step got a bad rep for O Line a few years back when the general concensus seemed to be high agility but less speed (as TJ says it seemed to "invite" the rusher into the backfield by leaving a void.) I probably wouldn't advise it on Pass blockers as they should have the natural agility thru build - Also it seems that O Line in general are built with more speed as well

On Run Blockers (FBs incl) 1st Step helps and fires regularly but you would have to tae into consideration the pass/run ratio of the type of Offense you wish to run - More passing = less need for 1st Step

Pummel and Aura work well and also affect Pass Rushers - standard build guides as stated. Im building an OL all with Pummel but not with Aura (I prefer individual enhancers rather than team or area ones) -

OK thanks for all the help. It seems that First Step is the way to go for a pulling guard. Now for said pulling G, when purchasing SAs, would Run Block, Pass Block and Cut Block be useful choices? He already will have 9 in Pancake via AEQ, and can afford 7 in Cut Block, and both Run and Pass Block, and can add 4 with CEQ, which we'd put 2 into CB to make that 9, and one each in the others to make them both 8. Does this make sense, or would you switch that around or go a different direction entirely? He'll have 6 First Step with 93 Agility, and probably six in both Pummel and AoI unless we decide to go with balance for one of those.
