Hey all, is there a reason why most of the pro leagues feature deep passers as their QBs, as opposed to pocket passers?

Where is the love for the pocket passers? What's the advantage to having a deep passer?

Imo... It's the value of Strength over Confidence in passer performance.

Which, strangely enough, while it makes a bit of sense there is NO way to prove which is really more valuable. IMO, in the end, I would favor Strength over Confidence somewhat... but I see a lot of builders that think that having 125 Strength means they won't toss as many INT's as the QB with 95 strength. I really don't think so and even if it DID cause a few less INT's over a career... it surely would cause just as many, if not more, Dropped Passes because the harder you throw it, the harder it is to catch. So... go fig.

I feel Deep Passers throw more INT's but the up side is they throw better deep passes.

STR improves pass quality over longer distance therefore giving higher pass quality on short passes that are well within the QB range. This was as per Bort (God rest his soul) in one of the question threads.
To the extent that pass quality affects interceptions STR would affect interceptions.

True but he also said Agility also effects pass quality as well. So having 100 strength but only 48 agility kinda defeats the purpose of the extra strength, wouldn't it?

Agility doesn't directly affect pass quality. The 2 things that Agility does are

#1 reduce the amount of time between when a QB decides to throw and actually throwing (release time).

http://glb.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2932263&pbp_id=538464 you can see it pretty easily on rookie dots. The QB has the target, and before he throws, you can see him "wind up" when the football on his dot moves backward before the launch.

If there's a defender closing in, and the QB doesn't have a lot invested in Pocket Presence, then his pass quality will go down from pressure. The trick is.... Quick Release also affects this and overrides whatever Agility is when it fires (75% of the time). Pocket Presence reduces the effect the increase in pressure, actually has on the throw.

#2 Agility is also the amount of wiggle your QB has while in passing mode. High Agility will give him more opportunities to move around. More speed will increase the amount of space he covers per move. Think of Speed as miles per hour or more like inches per fraction of a second.

The bottom line is you can make a better QB by taking the SPs you'd invest in Agility and Speed (say going from 1-cap to 6-cap each--maybe 70 SPs) and using those SPs on more Strength, Vision and/or Throwing. I've given up on Confidence theory, for QBs.

THR>VIS>STR>(Agi=spd=Sta=Con)>Car for Deep passer is the way I've come to see things with the () in the 2nd to 3rd cap area +-65. I know some like the Agi higher.

that's true, but i assume you could get 95~ strength and still get a decent agility into the 70's, no?
that would give you the best of both worlds it would seem...

all this, plus getting the ball there faster plays a big part in completing passes to open receivers...
at the same time, a fastball is somewhat more difficult to catch than a softer pass
(which is one of the many reasons why its nice to have guys who can catch on your side)
