It's weird that all these little glitches are popping up for stuff that has been set in the code for a long time and hasn't been touched. I'm no coder for sure, but I thought once the coding in a program was done, the glitches stopped? Now I know before a code is complete, some changes and tweaks have negative effects on other parts of code that have to be identified then fixed(or patched) but I always thought once the coding was completed that was it.
I'd be interested in a quick education from anyone here who does coding about my incorrect assumptions.
I wouldn't say your assumptions are incorrect. Code runs for many years with unintended 'glitches' and hiccups. but to address your remark about 'glitches stopped'. it is a common assumption with users. granted the users are very good at using the code and many times we as coders don't expect to hear ways in which a user will find they can use the code. I"m not suggesting the OP did something to cause it. But there was a situation that was created (unique situation) that causes a piece of logic to do exactly what the coder meant it to do. problem is: when some other condition arises this 'glitch' will run with undesired results.
Usually it's in the original code and what I call a 5/90 problem...5% condition that takes 90% of the time to find. Considering how much code has gone into this...this may not be a rabbit they want to chase.
It is why folks who don't code for a living call us 'detail-oriented'. it takes time and empirical data to fix these 5/90s. Bort et.al., may not have time to run this down and many times it is a conscious decision to ignore it OR they don't have enough past info to replicate the situation on a test server. But it probably is on their bug list..
I say all these things with utter deference to your perspective. So not an ounce of critique or negativity is meant towards you or your remarks. also, I'm not here to hijack the thread.
