This is my point exactly. I can build useful dots all day long but that has gotten stale as hell....try and build something a little bit different that might be of interest to you, my advice, don't bother! Spend months waiting for said player to mature, realize he's not playing/getting stats, retire, rinse, repeat or build a useful player that's just plain boring from start to finish

This is why many fail at it in the end. If I wanted to (anymore) I could build stat monsters but then my dots would look like clones of stuff already done before (by me [now and then] and many others). But I've been here long enough that stats don't mean shit to me anymore. I took to building O-linemen for two reasons; #1 to be assured of playing all the time and, #2 to build something useful without having to go stat whoring all the time. Same for building blocking/receiving WR's. No way they were ever gonna be HOF'ers or stat monsters... but it was cool to see them cake a CB or LB or safety while the glory dot running the ball got it's TD.
If you can't be satisfied with the little things that contribute to a team victory instead of the MVP's and HOF stuff... then you should find those old builds and clone them and hope ya get attached to a team with a great 'bit players' to help ya along the way.

Everybody is different, but I'd rather build a dot that gets 10 plays a game on a World League contender than have that same dot stat-whore in a lesser league.

Unless it's an "old fart" favorite who you are not ready to retire that is Day 520 for instance...

I guess a lot of boils down to how many dots you build. If I had 10,15, 20+ dots I would be happy building all kinds.....experimental, stat whoring, team players, etc, but I'm at the stage with this game where I'll only use my 3 freebies, maybe spend a little on flex when required, but generally I only have 3 dots on the go. It's tough spending months building a player only to then have 5 seasons of 5-10 plays per game .
Maybe I'll just revert back to building O linemen for WL teams or maybe it's finally time to actually walk away .

This. If I wanted to spend 500 bucks on GLB, I would have a rushing QB, a blocking RB/WR, etc. but I don't. It's all about context.

A blitzer LB looks like is on the brink. If a DC such as Farlig wants to use one, it may be worth building one. If they don't, it definitely doesn't.

Which archetypes would that be? I'm thinking about these:
FB Rushing
LT Pass block
C any type (though I'd like to make use of Line General, if that's any good)
DT Run stopping (what about D-line general?)
CB Man
FS Zone
SS Zone/Combo

Any of those defensive positions are generally in demand (Zone players a little less so but a good one will always find a home and get well used). Rushing FB's are great ideas... if you find an OC who will USE them as Rushers and use the ENOUGH. A Scat FB generally gets a LITTLE more love because it can catch passes. A Blocking FB (well built) gets the bulk of the snaps if for no other reason as to be one more blocker for the 99% RB's and RQB's that run the ball 97% of the time. ANYTHING O-line will ALWAYS get love because nobody wants to build them and build them right.
