WL Forum is probably as good as any place to list the "Greatest Live Rock Performances" ever:
In their prime was there any band better, live?

I'll play!

I've held the theory for a few years now...ever since "Rockshow" by Paul McCartney and Wings got re-released...that they were the single best performing band during the late 70s. I'm purposely posting a song that wasn't one of their "hits"...just pay attention to the all-around greatness of this band live: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPqeny-Mmfg

I saw these guys opening up for Aerosmith in 1978 (my first concert), I had no idea who they were before the show, but they absolutely blew Aerosmith out of the arena and have been my favorite band ever since.... I saw them again in the late 80's as a headliner, and they had the entire crowd in the palm of their hands for the whole show...

This band was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Long over due recognition. The musicianship of this band is unmatched, with many of the members given awards for being the best by an old music magazine. It was shameful it took so long to be recognized and that possibly the greatest bass player ever, Chris Squire, had passed away before being inducted.

Some of the best I've ever seen aren't well know or even my favorite bands. Saw Styx at the Cow Palace on their 'Mr. Roboto' tour and it was awesome. Saw Alice Cooper several times and have NEVER been disappointed. Saw Van Helen and they sucked (at least that show they did). Rush, Yes, B.O.C., I could keep going and going. But the best ever show I've seen was Stevie Ray Vaughn when he was just starting to get known at a small little gym. I doubt there was much over 1,000 people if even that that showed up and he gave 3 hours of his time, several curtain calls, had everyone come down out of the bleachers and sit on the floor in front of the stage, then came down off the stage and walked among the crowd. Everyone was either far to polite to bother him as he did so... or, like me, far too star struck in amazement at watching him play to even move. And, thing was, he didn't have to do what he did. He could've done his 1 hour show and walked on. Class act. Megadeth and Dave Mustaine did the same years later to a larger crowd in our little podunk town. Another class act.

Sadly I haven't been to too many concerts. 1. Not a lot of my friends go, and 2. I live in CO and Red Rocks isn't cheap, though I know there are obviously other venues...but with that being said, the best live performance I've seen was Peter Frampton. He opened for Lynyrd Skynyrd and just killed it, I thought he put on a better show than Skynyrd

Some of the best taped "live" shows I've ever seen included an amazing set by Triumph out in California, and an early concert of ELO, lord did they have a good time on stage.

I've seen several decent to very good live shows. Big venues from the 80's included shows by Joe Walsh, Foreigner and Journey. Smaler venues have included acts such as the Romantics, Cheap Trick and 38 special. One of my favorite live acts is the always memorable Rainmakers, with Bob Walkenhorst always being an epic showman. So very glad they reformed the band a few years ago.
