Sure, *somebody* would still occasionally stat-whore their way to a 9-7 record, but it would do away with a lot of the riff-raff running up meaningless numbers while going 5-11.

Could also make it limited to the final 4 teams. How valuable is the player really if he can't help his team win a playoff game?

NFL has an un-official bias towards playoff teams

they could have weighted individual plays. a 65 yard punt in a 10-9 game is way more important than a 65 yard punt in a 70-3 game. same as a 40 yard punt going outat the 2 vs a 40 yarder from your own 20. there were just so many good options for calculating mvp, and we got adjusted stats

There are subtle differences between MMORPG stats/rankings and sports stats/rankings. I always thought it was a shame this game didn't understand that
