It is such crap on how the MVP gets picked for this. I have had punters lead the league in average, no MVP, lead in average and yardage, no MVP. This has been a problem for years so I know it won't get fixed, but my goodness it is frustrating. My punter this season had an average that was 8+ yards over the MVP but yet he won because he had twice as many yards as mine. Why?? Because he punted about 1.5 times as much as mine did.

honestly, bort should have rolled this mvp into the st and/or offensive mvps when he shrank the leagues. my kicker has lost 3 or 4 mvps to punters who simply punt every possession, usually with crappy averages because bort wanted players on sucky teams to have a chance to win, so he prioritized total yards over average in every category.

and in your case, w/o looking, i'm guessing that your team was better, so that hurts your "team contribution" score, and if your player was a higher level, that will also hurt you.

btw, i did just look and your punters are in 4th and 6th, so i'm not sure what this thread was about at all...lol

I think, although I have nothing to prove it with, that more weight is given to other things as well. My punter wasn't great when it came to average and yardage, but she got a LOT of coffin corner and no returns and consequently won me 2 MVP's. She also had several tackles in her career as well because I built her to be a ST dot that could punt, not a Punter that might make a tackle if someone tripped over them. That's why her strength and punting weren't WL high.

Maybe we should have a single MVP for the league in the categories of offese, defense, kicking, and special teams now that we have shrunk the size of the leagues.

league wide mvp will never work because far too often, there's a strong conf and a weak conf. getting to play the weak conf twice would be a huge advantage

I really hate to say this but both the MVP and the MVP gear really need to go away. I understand the desire to have it but, unfortunately, there is simply NO WAY it can ever be done is such a way that is both fair and acceptable to all. Also, it does promote 'stat whoring' to grab the gear and that takes away from the game, IMO.

yeah, pretty much. i would have it only at pro/wl level, and even pro is iffy these days. hof and mvp were 2 of the most messed up implementations.

I have no idea where you got 4th and 6th from. Both of my punters lead the league in punting average by a long shot.

Sure, but where were they RANKED in the MVP race at the time Guppy posted? I think that's what he was trying to point out. Not that ranking matters beyond showing which dots made the 'lottery' for both the MVP nomination and the gear. And it IS a lottery. That's how GLB explains their way of fighting the stat whores.

apparently you've moved up to 3rd and 6th. if you are going to post whine threads, at least know what you are talking about. there is no punter mvp, it's a kicker/punter mvp, and typically the only ways a punter wins is by being on a terrible team and punting a HUGE number of times to get total yards since avg has never appeared to be part of the equation, or be in a conference with no human punters or kickers. and like the stmvp, the kpmvp is total FUBAR. my so-to-be 4 time kpmvp has come in 2nd 3 times to punters with big yards and non-conference leading averages. if you want to steal an mvp, next season pick a team that is not actively run, and will score very few points. otherwise, welcome to the world of the crappy mvp races.

btw, even if you yards had been as many as his, he still would have beat you out, because player level and team record have always appeared to play a part in the mvp formula, and yes, both of those facts totally suck.

Thank you for your responses. Apparently I can't read and didn't know that this was a kicker/punter MVP. I've only been playing this game since about the beginning. Apparently it is also whining when you bring up legitimate issues but once again I should know that nobody cares about this game anymore so why should I?

Also as I stated this has been going on for seasons now. In the past I have lead the league in both yards and average by a huge amount and still wasn't even the #1 punter. Explain that to me? But apparently that's whining, so I'll back away from the keyboard and let real GLB players deal with deciding who is whining or not.

it's whining because you didn't "bring up" a legitimate issue, you ranted about not winning. your OP contented that you deserved the mvp because in your OPINION, you were the better punter. and we'd probably all agree with that, but you weren't even in 2nd. and if you don't fixate on me calling this whining, you'll see I tried my best to explain not only why you lost, but how you can have better chance in the future. I don't see anything else giving you that info. btw, whining is part of glb because lets face it, there are a ton of things about this game that just make no sense.

The stat whoring for MVP nonsense could have been dramatically reduced with a single step: Code it where any dot who isn't on a team with a winning record (1 game over .500) is ineligible for the MVP.

Sure, *somebody* would still occasionally stat-whore their way to a 9-7 record, but it would do away with a lot of the riff-raff running up meaningless numbers while going 5-11.
