i have some speedsters with catching in the 80's. not sure how much higher i need to get them. how high does everyone get their catching by the time they hit lvl 79?

there is no answer to that question.

on any given play 80 catching could be way too much or not nearly enough

the difficulty of the catch is determined by 3 things....

#1 proximity to the nearest defender -- if your receiver is wide open then the catch is much easier... so you could design a WR to get wide open and let the OC only throw to him in certain situations

#2 incoming pass quality -- pass quality is determined by your QB and the amount of pressure he's under... if you have a killer o-line build for pass blocking then your receivers could in theory scale back catching, in favor of more get open ability

#3 situation -- We know for a fact, Bort did build in a pressure mechanic so that it's harder to catch passes on 3rd down. We could conclude that also pertains to touchdowns. We could conclude that the score of the game adds pressure. In theory catching a pass in a playoff game, with a tied score, in the last 2 minutes of 4th quarter on 4th down --- would be a lot harder than a regular season game, in the first quarter on second down when the score is already 35-0.

So.. tl;dr

If you have a catch fake and fly guy, then 80 catching is plenty, you could probably get away with 70s if you had 170 speed

The slower you are, the more catching you need

What about if he catches passes, but doesn't get passes thrown to him that often?

90 + Catch Fake and Juke - can make it 95 with VA's

Haha first thing I did was check to see if you were one of my teams. Create custom equipment called ball magnet. Works every time.
