Yeah... for most people, sure. He didn't get mad at me when I said as much though because I made sure I respected him first. Frustrated with my 'take' on things, sure... but never angry or pissy or petty. And those that prolong the argument by trying to provoke or prod him only serve to reinforce his (lesser) opinion of them... and I can't argue his logic there either. I simply respectfully disagree with him and don't push it further. I already agree with him on plenty so our differences aren't all that bad. Once you accept someone and their views, however different than your own, then angry (and sometimes violent) confrontations don't happen very often.

i freely disagreed with him using the exact same tone he was using with me and the only result was that he wrote me off as a "sophist" and refused to speak to me for literally years.

i think that's a win, not sure.

And here's the problem. Seriously. I still don't agree with him on everything but I get along with him fine. I just don't do what you did and debate him on his terms. I know what I know and while he might not agree with what I know, I'm not gonna change what I know to agree with him... unless he's right. Now he thinks he's right 97% of the time. Nobody is right 97% of the time... hell... I'm happy to crack 60% myself. But if I'm to have a change of mind then it'll be because I LEARNED it... not was told it. I'm always willing to entertain thoughts and viewpoints that aren't my own. But there is nothing that says I must accept them without scrutiny.
