I signed up for GLB way back in S2. I remember I made a defensive end, signed to a team, and fell in love with the game. I had signed up in a hotel room on my laptop. then spent the next few days trying to track my players first days from my grandparents phone. It was amazing to me. Of course back then no one knew what they were doing - dots could be made in the middle of the season and still have an impact on whatever league they were playing in. I bought flex and built players at all different positions, dabbled in team ownership and coordinating, and was active in the forums.

By looking at some of my retired players (I only kept the names of a few), it seems like my last season was around S29. Back then, there was multiple leagues full of teams. Recruiting for teams was active and engaging. Teams were full of multiple agents and GMs that had to cooperate and work together to succeed.

So what happened? Compared to the past, there are minimal leagues with minimal players. The forums are dead. Did people just stop playing and never come back? Is it simply a numbers game? This game had so much potential, and was always a blast for anyone who was involved.

I just checked back in after about the same amount of time. I'm not surprised to find it the way it is. I'm probably going to build a couple of dots or whatever because of infinite stores of flex.

GLB2 seems pretty dead too.

Relax.

The game we enjoy playing (American football) is still being simmed here. Dive in. Build a player.

The user base has down-sized (and to some degree split by the introduction of deuce)....However the hard core that remain are a force to be reckoned with (even the "no-cares" lol)....I signed up sometime around S 20 something and have been told ever since then that the game is "dead" "dying" or "decaying" and yet here we are !!!.....IMO in spite of the faults gripes concerns etc GLB "classic" remains by far the best online sports sim of its type.......As Ronnie Van Zandt would say " The games gonna rise again!!"

the short version is... A series of bad decisions.

Basically every time someone found an exploit of any kind, Bort pounded the F out out if with the Nerf bat.

For example, teams were exchanging players to pay salaries so players could buy maxxed out EQ. --- insert nerf --- now trading is a useless concept

on top of that, Equipment no longer has anything to do with money, so double dumb ass on that one.

some players were gaming the system with training (called super slow building) --- insert nerf --- not only did they make all league age based (which killed off the exploit) the completely rebuilt the training system, and added more safeguards against something that no longer could exist anyway

It was just a long tedious process of exploit, nerf, exploit, nerf, until all the fun had been sucked out of the game. all that remains is the math, and knowing which plays to avoid using in the AI. The rest is Rochambeau (rock, paper, scissors) and RNG

most users are only here siting on huge piles of flex, and a lot of us have 3 free players now, so that will slow the decline of the game even more.

It's mostly a bad habit... sort of like smoking, at this point. It's just hard to quit.

Blink 182 disbanded. Thus, glb has also died along with my broken heart.

Because why finish one pretty good game when you can make 2 shitty new games instead?

I joined ssn 6 and yes this game was extremely live back then. What happened you ask? A hole owners would start to get Stat greedy so they not signing anyone except their 55 own players now the guy who just started who first player was an qb or rb has to sign to a d league team where you have no human owner to complain to why your one and only player only throwing the ball 14 times or why your rb gets only 7 carries a game. On top of that waiting 48 hours to repeat... so now that guy has decided to stick around one more season to only not get signed again and repeat the same thing he did last season. Which limits this agent ability to have his players prosper

I remember we used to get 100 free flex points every offseason which gives guys an hope on owning their own team if they would to stick around for four seasons and purchasing their own team, I know that what kept me around anyways but what do I know

What I suggest is that we make the cost of buying a team lower or put in work on owning a team more realistic. More inside game options

Moral of the story is once people get greedy the situation becomes an headache instead of fun....everytime
