Us Casual Proers embark on our 38th season of CP dotball. We finally get to say so long to Running Gag who had one of the most dominate runs in CP history. Gag stayed up in the pro's for six seasons and if wasn't for my studly team they'd have played in six straight championship games. Gag won gold in seasons 45, 46, and 49 while capturing silver in seasons 47 and 50 (to top it off they brought home three gold .gifs in the CP Tourney in seasons 45, 47, and 49). So long bastards!!!

Out with the old and in with the new. Each of the four new teams offers plenty of CP experience whether in the form of the dots built or the coaching staff (or a combo of the two). Here are the new faces that joined the league for the upcoming season (take an early shot on which teams you think will grab a playoff spot - my cash is on the Rockwood Rollers):

Eaton Beavers
Durham Blue Devils
Rockwood Rollers
Hoodzilla .
===================================================================
EARLY SEASON PREDICTIONS

Western Conference

1. Denmark Dragons - Seemed poised to step to the forefront of the league with Gag out of the way. It won't be handed to them but I have them pegged as the top dog to kick the season off. Coming off a conference championship game they have 54 returning dots from last season.

2. Full Perky Tets - The Tets had a roller coaster sesaon last year finishing at 8-8 and getting the 4th spot in the playoffs. With a year under their belt they won't need a season to get into a grove and will hit the ground running this season. With 55 dots back from last season look for this team to contend with a shot to make the title game.

3. Detroit Rock City - Rock city fell on hard times last season and did not make the playoffs. They were able to stay in the pros but I do think some lessons were learned along the way and it will make them a better team. Really, where else is there to go but up after going 4-12? Look for DRC to get into the playoffs as they entire team is back and chomping at the bit to do better.

4. DIABLOW CIRCLES - My team is a bit older so I'm hoping we have enough gas left in the tank for another title game push. I don't think its out of the realm of possibility to nab the 4th spot as long as the walkers and wheelchairs don't give out on us. ALl 55 dots return from last season's 13 win team.

5. Durham Blue Devils - The Blue Devils are back under new ownership and won't find the accommodations very welcoming. The Devils no doubt will be a competitive team but there's only six slots and the newcomers need to prove they can beat up on the hardened vets. BDD returns 43 dots from their roster a season ago so there may be some adjustment to work out the kinks.

6. Eaton Beavers - Hey, anything with beaver in it makes most of us laugh. What's not funny is Eaton comes in with a 19 game winning streak. The team also brings back 54 dots from last season. However, like DBD this team will need to make their mark on CP to move up on the rankings.

Easter Conference

1. Uh Oh! HOOD gone Casual - Are the defending champs so until they're beaten the dogs with the biggest bark and bite get to stay on top. HOOD does return 38 dots but as we all wait to see stumanroo's new RB (WHO HAS WAY TOO LONG OF NAME TO EVER BE WRITTEN ABOUT).

2. Bier Markt - I keep saying "this is the last year" and with five WL teams this may be it for me. BM should be near the top once again and we'll need to dethrown the defending champs to get back to the promised land. BM returns 39 dots from last season's 12-4 team.

3. Royal Drunken Monkey Spankers - The Monkey Spankers have pulled more than an upset or two since joining CP from my top two teams. Now, they just need to get it done in the playoffs where they've lost to the HOOD in the first round each of the past two seasons.

4. Rockwood Rollers - A new team for certain but it's simply the four hole is open for the taking with the rest of the three teams. I'll have to see how this team plays as we move through the season.

4. Hoodzilla. - A little surprise here as this team has been hiding down in RP for the past few seasons. They've been up in the pro's before and we'll see how they look early on if they make a dash for the four hole. The team does return 39 dots from last season's team.

4. Her Majesty's Dragons - I generally don't bag a returning vet team this low but the Dragons have made the playoffs the last two seasons by winning four and seven games. I don't think a losing record would get them into the playoffs but I know the team will fight tooth and nail to get there. The team returns 30 dots from the 7-9 team last season.
===================================================================
I'd planned to do a top 50 CP Dot over the past sesaon and never really got around to it so I'll somewhat start it with my 50th Anniversary Team (although we're only 37 seasons deep as of last year). As you can see I've not gotten very far but as time permits hopefully it will have a thread of its own at some point.

QB - Bier Market, Bier Markt (BADGERBACKER). This is the only five time MVP of the league passing for 43,877 yards (2nd all time) and 415 TD's (first all time) while playing from seasons 36-41 (two golds).

Week one is in the books and only 15 weeks until the real season begins. While the season is early we did see some teams flex some of their muscles with some needing to make some tweaks.

Week 1 Summary:

-Outside of the Tets and Rock City game there were not that many close games.
-I'd chuck the upset of the week as the Rollers upending the Monkey Spankers.
-The new teams went a respectable 2-2 in their games.
-One surprising thing to me was the 23 picks in the opening weekend and the five fumbles lost (28 total turnovers).
-47 teams entered survivor with 11 being eliminated.

Dot of the Week
WR Heinrich Puckett, Uh Oh! HOOD gone. Puckett caught five passes for 125 yards and two TD's in the HOOD's 27-13 win over Bier Markt.

Week 2 Predictions
Denmark Dragons vs. Full Perky Tets - This one will an early season match up of dominance in the West. I got the Dragons spitting a little fire on the Tets and getting away with a win...27-24.

Eaton Beavers vs. DIABLOW CIRCLES - While the old men of the league the CIRCLES are still not a team to look past and they'll welcome the newcomers with a win here and an 0-2 start...34-24.

Durham Blue Devils vs. Detroit Rock City - Both teams lost in the opening and in the game a dotball getting that first win is important. I have RC getting by in a close one...20-17.

Rockwood Rollers vs. Hoodzilla . - Both teams look good in the opening week but only one will move to 2-0 and that will be 'Zilla...24-23.

Her Majesty's Dragons vs. Bier Markt - Both teams looked flat in week one but BM has been holding court over the Dragons the past few seasons so look for a BM win here...30-10.

Royal Drunken Monkey Spankers vs. Uh Oh! HOOD gone Casual - The regular season games between these two have been good but good games don't get wins and the HOOD will get the win here...34-20.

GLB's Top Five
1. Rockwood Rollers (GLB #3 overall)
2. DIABLOW CIRCLES (GLB #6 overall)
3. Full Perky Tets (GLB #8 overall)
4. Denmark Dragons (GLB #9 overall)
5. Hoodzilla . (GLB #10 overall)
