Obviously Bort, DD, Corndog, etc. do not think there is further potential in GLB. That is obvious. So, why not get together and build something?
Forum > Goal Line Blitz > Why doesn't the community get together and build a new GLB?
Um... I can think of a few reasons. #1, it would take someone (a coder) seriously dedicated to spend the rest of their time doing not much else but writing code and fixing bugs. I say some ONE because it's unlikely that a bunch of us live close enough to each other as Burt and CO. do. #2, it would take some serious money as well. Servers aren't cheap and the building needed, the cooling needed, and the electricity needed for everything (as well as backups to everything.) And, #3, it couldn't be 'exactly' the same because of proprietary laws.
All that said, it's not impossible... just improbable.

I've wondered why there isn't some sort of management game out there that gives you the option to build your own players for your team and play against the AI.

I would be surprised if GLB hosted their own servers.
As for hosting as it would pertain to running a site similar to GLB it certainly would be a cost, but I do not think it is as expensive as GLB has lead people to believe (if they have). Based off of my knowledge (i do the codez).

I wish bort would open up some sort of talk and we could maybe try some things out for the hell of it.I mean some things that were on the NGH list. I mean shake it up and lets have some fun before the lights go out.

I suspect, MVT, that it's basically a matter of 'want to' overcoming 'screw that, I'm to lazy to do the work'. I mean, it's been posted, said, repeated, and so on that GLB 1 (original) is not going to be grown or tinkered with any more. So I hear ya... might as well try a few things here and there... shake the booty up and see what happens. But that means 'wanting to'... and I really don't see a lot of 'want to' left among management anymore.

If the GLB crew is still located in the Seattle area (I think they were in the early years), I would love to have a brainstorming session to see if we can't find a way to pump life in this game again.

Money and time. So who's got the money to buy the code from Bort. Then who's got the time to learn it, maintain and then add to it? Seems like Warrior Games thought about it and decided on GLB2 instead of continuing down the path with GLB Classic.

Bort retired and is kicking it with 2Pac and Elvis on the beaches of Jamaica.
