If free dots had to go through the current build method, it would provide some fodder for the minors, but it would certainly reduce number of players in the minors. However, with the smaller leagues coming next season, fewer players will be needed to fill them.

Need Smaller rosters...this would provide more teams...Cut Rosters down to 45 Thats 11 defense, 11 offense, kicker, punter and 21 backups...more than enuf

The argument has been made that those "extra" players that smaller rosters would CUT would NOT end up on other teams--certainly not past the first implementation of the roster-size change. That argument says that those dots were created ONLY for those certain teams to begin with--that if those certain teams no longer required their services then the dots would be retired (and in subsequent generations not created to begin with).

If that argument is correct, cutting roster size would just shorten the life of the game since fewer dots would = less income = less reason to keep the doors open.

I'd say the truth lies between both of you. Some dots would find new homes because new homes would be available by necessity. Once you've invested a lot into a dot, you're not generally quick to retire it before plateau. So new teams would be bought to cover the need and then those dots would have homes. However... at the lower levels AND those teams getting ready to start out... wouldn't need those extra dots and there would be no incentive to keep a new dot going, if built... rather recycle first. And then there's the dots that would NOT get built (not needed now). So, down the road, there'd be even LESS dots available to fill roster spots... for a while... and teams would die off (cuz no dots)... until the playing field leveled back out and we'd be right back where we are now.
The ONLY possible net effect would be a few new teams being bought because the overall flex pool (or ALL glb players) would remain the same (minus losses from recycles)... so you would eventually have a few more teams available. Not a lot though... and probably not enough to justify re-writing the building codes to make this work because the biggest impact of 45 man rosters would be the extreme effects of/on stamina. That would HAVE to be addressed with changes to either stamina loss (during games) or how quickly you could build stamina on a dot.

Stop, just stop. The hole is dug, the coffin is in the grave, DD & Cornhole just haven't thrown the dirt on it yet.
