There was no significant contact until after the ball hit the defender in the back. His hand touched him, but he did not interfere with him (The jersey grab was earlier in the route and a different issue altogether). Back judge that threw flag had a terrible angle to see if there was contact enough before ball was touched for pass interference . His bad call was corrected by other officials. To be honest, there are too many PI calls league wide in cases just like this where the defender is face guarding, and just because he doesn't turn around gets called for the penalty even without contact. I was glad to see them get it right for a change.

The only fail they made was not announcing why the flag was not picked up as they do in just about every other case when a flag is picked up (and they DO get picked up several times per game)

Fair enough, that's your opinion and I don't have a problem with that. I don't agree with it, I don't think they got it right. To have gotten it right it should have been called defensive holding for the jersey grab... but whatever, at least you bring a valid point to the thread without all that other fluff.

I think any play where a flag is picked up should be an automatic booth review... a flag was thrown for a reason, and its a shame some refs can be talked out of what they saw as a penalty.

I merely pointed out the PI that was called.... and then picked up.... that shouldn't have been picked up. That's a hose job imo.

the NFL said there should have been a flag, your opinion nonwithstanding

that said, not a guarantee the Lions win just because they let the call stand

The PI/D holding penalty aside, can anyone explain why Dez wasn't flagged for running off the sideline screaming into the ref's face with no helmet. Automatic penalty.

Addressed today by the leagues head official that it was purely a judgement call on that and that running onto the field is rarely called. To be fair to Poppa, the head official also stated that in HIS opinion there was a defensive holding penalty on the play in question that wasn't called and that Suh was held on the 4th down completion to Witten to sustain the Cowboys game winning drive.

So Detroit can take consolation that they were screwed. I feel for Suh. All he wanted was a fair call. Well, unless it involves him and one of his many instances of ejectionable behavior. That's different. Poor guy. And the Lions in general, maybe they should invest in a party bus in the future. I hear those things are all the rage among teams in helping to influence impressionable officials.

Of course they are going to say that. They are trying to get out of the mess they put themselves into. Oh well, people are going to call this game tainted no matter what, but cowboys play next week. Just like people still believe that just the Saints were the only ones doing bounties when there was evidence otherwise. Always conspiracy theories every year.
