Would the Intimidating VA actually work even though it's in the "defense" category?

supposedly yes, but there are way more VA's that a HB needs or is more useful than intimidating

Perhaps, but I'd imagine there are lots of variables to consider. If one of a team's primary strategies is focused on punishing the other team's morale, Aura would almost be like the anti-Helmet Crash (minus the effect to energy). It would dole out punishment for any tackler beyond the energy needed to make the tackle. Heck, in many ways, it'd be more effective than Helmet Crash because it would affect more than just the tackler if the radius was big enough.

If combined with 15 in Punishing Runner, 8-10 in Intimidating, and 7-8 Aura, this could be pretty potent...

Since the beginning of GLB, everyone outside QBs, kickers, and punters have largely ignored confidence--which makes it all the easier to exploit.

You've never been on the receiving end of a defense full of people with 10-15 points in Helmet Crash and a bunch of LBs with Aura, have you?

No.
In the very beginning, people believed confidence is important.
But by testing more and more, people found it's just not. Then people started to ignore confidence.

This^^^ Vision (on most builds) is a close second.

The morale stuff only works if you are crushing your opponent, but against comparable teams or in close games it's useless.
