Hardly anyone posted thanks after a veteran had posted here and most of the ones that did just made shitty jokes.

Thats why I let it be..........................Most vets just wanna have fun and continue to live life. This game is fun but not life.

and yes most nation knows I am a vet and associate with said vets, but our ranks thin in here just as they do on the line.

Ok... as a Vet it's ok, I guess, to get a little thanks. But, also, as a vet, I get sick and tired of all the glory we vets get when Cops get shit despite doing the same damn thing we do... just not for the government. Firefighters are finally beginning to garner some well deserved respect for laying their lives on the line every day... but Cops just get fuckin hung out to dry everytime they're forced to do their job. Yeah... some of them are dicks and deserve the crap they receive. Guess what? Some Veterans are crap too and DON'T deserve the respect they get. I know... I knew some of them. Just because you sign up to do a job, doesn't mean you automatically get, nor deserve, the same respect all the time. My Brother served 6 tours in Nam... My Dad never saw action. My Grandfather fought in WWI and WWII. I love my father all to hell and back but I understood when he said, "Don't go crazy, son... I was just doin my job and it wasn't that hard." Equal respect? Not even in my family. I saw action... ha, ha... out at sea, on a ship, while everyone else was in the thick. I know where I stand when I meet someone who actually saw combat as opposed to what I enjoyed in the military. They have always had my respect... I have never asked for theirs, nor received it much for they know what I know. And I do not feel put down, nor put upon just because they don't dish out the same respect and honor as I do for them. I wouldn't have it any other way. You EARN what you get in this life.

FWIW...i give respect to cops. even when i've been pulled over for something i never "cop" an attitude. i'm always polite and respectful because under different circumstances, that individual would put his life on the line for me, a friend or a family member. also being polite and respectful often gets you a warning instead of a ticket whereas if you're mouthing off or arguing with the cop, you're probably getting a ticket. when i've gotten a ticket and didn't agree with the charge, i would go in front of a judge and argued my case and have been successful in either being found innocent or at least getting the benefit of doubt. if it was something i know i was doing wrong then i just owned up to it and paid my fine.

i guess the thing about honoring vets is because there was a time when young men were drafted and got put into situations they were ill-equipped to deal with. there were several generations of men who did what was asked of them and never once complained. almost everyone of us has a family member who belonged to that demographic.
we now live in a time where the best military force in the world is fully staffed by volunteers and no one is subject to be drafted. those of us who have been able to freely pursue any and every aspect of our lives are especially appreciative to those who volunteered and made that possible for us because we never had to worry having our lives disrupted to do something that we would rather not do. at least that's my perspective.
