Pacific Pro Week 8 Showcase

Southeast Asia Conference

The Dead Presidents @ Malaysian Madness

Well, I think both of these teams deserve to be spoken about, just not necessarily in a matchup against one another but it is what it is. I haven’t necessarily said this out loud in the past, at least, not in these words but, Dead truly is a one-trick pony. They run the ball, there’s never been a secret about that and anyone who can muster a competent offense against them and shut down their running game can beat them. That’s really the truth of it all, like it or not, they’ve got a very good defense and they’ve got an excellent rushing attack which they use to their advantage and no one or at least very few teams seem to be able to stop it, though it gets stopped every single year in the playoffs it seems.

I like M&M as an up & coming team, I think they’ll be around Pac Pro for a while. I was a bit surprised about their blowout loss to SI, that’s the truth of it. Malaysia, I’m open to having you prove me wrong but until then, this simply isn’t a game you’re going to win. What I want to see from you however is a strong effort and some progression.

Prediction: Dead Presidents, 255-0

Oceania Conference

Bow Chicka Brown Cows @ $in City $yndicate

BCBC’s spiral of death came to an end against Kosovo last week when they completely destroyed them 63-20. Whomever has been tugging on your utters, I wouldn’t tell them to shoo anytime soon. $C$ the biggest question I have about you is, can you win when the pressure is on? You might not think the pressure is on but guess what, it is, you’ve lost just one game and you’re sitting pretty with the high potential of a Top 4 seed, who you beat or who you don’t beat from here on out, determines your seed and your fate. Your only loss has been to RN, no surprise there tbh, some of your games have been close, others not so much. This game pits Top 6th everything (except passing yardage where neither is even Top 10). Statistically speaking, this should be a very good match up and possibly as evenly matched as it gets.

Prediction: BCBC 14-10

Razorback Nation @ Oregon Ducks

Much like the DP/M&M game, this one is simply not going to be a very good match up, so why is it in my write-ups? Because I think there’s something to like about both teams. Oregon is another team that has a ‘one-trick pony’ tendency, though they have shown the ability to throw the football in the past. There is certainly potential for Oregon to improve within Pac Pro, here’s the issue, very few teams in Pac Pro have succeeded at moving on without having the ability to A) efficiently run AND throw the football B) Stop the oppositions running game. Oregon has displayed the inability thus far to do both of those things, but they could make a statement by at least putting together a solid effort against the Conferences best team. Razorback Nation is what it is, they’re playing great offense and great defense. They’re going to steamroll Oregon so badly you’re going to think it was Bama rolling over Notre Dame in their prime.

Prediction: 75-14

Sumatra Seahawks @ Kosovo Kryptonite

Kosovo, you’re really fallen out of my good graces, if you’re going to actually make a run for the playoffs, you absolutely must find a way to win this game…good luck with that. I don’t think Kryptonite is the right name for you… maybe Kosovo Kittens would fit you a little better? I mean after all, you’re one of the softest ‘competitive teams’ in Oceania, only OTI makes you look good. I’ll tell you what, I’m going to give you an opportunity Kosovo, for what you ask? I’m going to give you an opportunity to earn your name back in my write-ups, from here on out, until you prove otherwise and because it rhymes, I dub you the Kosovo Marshmallows. So, where was I? Oh yea, Sumatra, solid win over CFM last week, shutting down their rushing attack and creating turnovers led to a big second half. Keep this going and there’s no reason you can’t secure a Top 4 seed.

Prediction: Sumatra Seahawks 150-3

***Official*** Football Guys @ Christchurch Fighting Maori

Contenders or Pretenders? That is the question and thus far, OFG surprised me when they took down SBD; frankly both of these teams have been very hard to get a read on. First they lost to the Oregon Ducks who’ve beat no one worth mentioning, then they barely beat OTM who’s beat well..no one in this conference. Then they find a way to scrape out a win against SBD; does that say more about how good they really are or does that label SBD subject to a huge power rankings fall? CFM you’ve had some real good wins, over BCBC, Kosovo (who isn’t looking very good), OTM, and Halifax, but you’ve also got losses to $C$, Sumatra, & SBD. Frankly both of these teams have got to prove their worth in this game. One is the Top Rushing team in the conference, one is Top 10 everywhere. The way I see it, regardless of record both of these teams are middle of the pack quality and first round playoff exits at best. This is more a question of which teams will or will not actually make the playoffs at this point and what seed they’ll be sitting in.

Prediction: CFM 24-23

Down Under Game of the Week

Williamsport Soul Reavers @ Stockholm Black Death

The moment everyone has been waiting for, to find out whether or not WSR is the real deal against a truly competitive team. The irony is, their first competitive matchup is going to come in the form of a near mirror image (strictly talking about team names here). Fire & Brimstone is going to be in full supply this week as two of Oceania’s heavy hitters (seemingly at least) go head to head! Hell hath no fury like two teams that take sending people to the After Life to heart and even put it in their name!

There really hasn’t been a more overall dominant team, statistically speaking, this season than WSR; to be fair, we’ve yet to play a team other than the Oregon Ducks that has been able to stay within 10 scores of us. SBD however has played a few competitive teams so far, with wins over Sumatra, BCBC, Kosovo, CFM, CPW, and a very close loss to $C$ as well as a very surprising loss to OFG. To see SBD win this game would likely surprise no one, just as it may not surprise anyone to see WSR lose. Through those competitive games however, there is something a bit more concerning about SBD; of the 16 teams in their conference, after having played 7 competitive teams, they are ranked 12th in Total offense, 8th in Total defense, and 14th in Points scored. What does however bode in their favor is that they’re also ranked 5th in Points allowed; which given the talent of the teams they’ve played, is actually more impressive than that of the 1st ranked WSR in that category. In no statistically category, at the moment, is WSR ranked worse than 3rd in the Conference; that is about to change.

There’s a couple of other concerns when it comes to SBD; through the first 6 games of the season, they’ve been able to muster just 644 yards on the ground, they’ve given up 28 sacks, and only scored 159 points on the season, they’ve also committed 8 turnovers this season. They have given up over 1200 passing yards and nearly 900 rushing yards thus far. A large part of that to be fair, is due to their missed tackles.

WSR’s stats are heavily inflated due to the level of competition they’ve faced but..for the sake of discussion.. WSR has thrown the ball for 3700+ yards, scored 75 TDS with only 1 Int, rushed the ball for over 2800 yards with 64 TDs, 0 Fumbles, only 6 sacks allowed and has scored 1242 points on the season. They’ve only given up 43 Points, allowed just 706.5 passing yards and 222.5 rushing yards; they’ve forced 20 fumbles, intercepted 33 passes, and scored 6 times on defense.

On paper, you’d probably say WSR wins this game easily, but it’s more complicated that a stat sheet. You have got to look at the level of talent that WSR has faced compared to that of SBD. SBD most definitely has the advantage going into this game, there’s really no reason to think otherwise.

I’ll tell you this much though, Quarterback Jake Whyler III & Running Back Marion Lucky are going to need to show up prepared to play some football in this game. Defensive End Philthy Sands who currently has 10 sacks, is going to need to continue to get after the QB; all of the stars, from the 3 FF’s by CJ Vondolin, the 3 Ints by Patrikc Robinson, `and guys like Roman Sharper, Strongish Safety, and Blowing You who are leading the team in missed tackles are going to have to step up their game and be prepared to fight the “War of the Underground” as I’m going to dub it. Only one team can carry the torch of hell itself and when the dust settles and all that is left is broken bone and ash, the question that will remain is who is standing atop the mountain of skulls and rotting corpses holding the others head like a football in the Heisman stance?

Prediction: SBD 24-21

Great Game SBD. I was right about it being a 3 point game, 10 points off both sides.

Clearly the game of the week was really $C$ & BCBC, neither team wanted a victory this week.
