Pacific Pro Playoff Matchups: Round 2

Southeast Asia Conference

#4 OFOTD @ #1 The Dead Presidents
This matchup was one of DP’s very few losses in the regular season and it wasn’t pretty. Dead runs the ball almost exclusively and in this matchup the first time around OFOTD completely shut them down. They also destroyed Dead through the air, they however, did not do an impressive job running the football. DP needs to be sure that they don’t over compensate in an attempt to control OFOTD’s passing game and give their running game breathing room. They’re also going to have to put the ball in the air. OFOTD pretty much has to do what they did the first time around with a little more rushing attack.

Prediction: OFOTD 28-13

#3 PRDM @ Carthage Clash

PRDM’s goal this season was to make it out of R1 without being upset; luckily for them they ended up in a ‘cupcake conference’. The first time they played Carthage it wasn’t even close. Carthage had success with their passing game but they absolutely embarrassed PRDM’s run defense when they ran the ball for over 700 yards and 11 TDs. Honestly, I don’t even know what to say other than this, PRDM’s only shot at winning this game, well..is to come at Carthage with a significantly better run defense, however, I fear that if they let up on the passing game to control the running game, then their secondary will be their liability. PRDM, your back is against the wall, how are you going to answer the call?

Prediction: Carthage Clash 55-7

Oceania Conference

#6 Dirty Island Gurupies @ #2 L.A. Resistencia
As the season has gone along DIG has drastically improved, in their first matchup against L.A. they pulled out a very close win in a low scoring affair, 16-7. Neither team did well in the passing game and L.A. did horrible running the football. Despite throwing two interceptions, it was a fumble by Ray Pierce that was truly the final nail in the coffin. Both teams are going to have to do a better job on both sides of the ball if they want to ensure victory. If we’ve learned anything from the first meeting it should be that this isn’t going to be a shootout and it will take all 60 minutes for someone to claim this victory.

Prediction: DIG 22-21

#5 Dallas Paladins @ #1 Whatever

It shouldn’t be to anyone’s surprise that this is the matchup we’re seeing, like last season, $C$ is done in round 1 and it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that WSR wasn’t going to pull out an upset. What did, at least to some degree, surprise me is that $C$ didn’t even put up a fight, they laid down and took a beating. 16 Points; that is the number of points that Dallas lost to Whatever by in their first meeting. In that game, despite having forced two interceptions, Dallas could not get their offense going and could not contain the Whatever running game. I genuinely believe they have the capability to pull an upset here but they’ve got to do a better job defensively and have got to get their rushing attack more involved. Whatever is going to need to do a much better job at protecting the football.

Prediction: Whatever 35-14

I wonder what will happen when our ownership clock runs out after we make WL?

I hope they bump someone else up.
