Week 1 Pacific Pro Highlight Matchups

The Thunder crashes, a huge cloud of smoke rises from the ground new the entrance to the studio, fireworks rocket into the air, and from behind it all comes……..Sally the Seachicken, the “officially” mascot of the Sumtra Seahawks (dubbed by yours truly)!

Tough Guy Game of the Week

Whatever @ ADDICTS RELAPSE

Whatever is coming off of a 6-10 season in WL but the fact is, they were in WL. There is no doubting that they have the caliber for this league. In fact, they might just unveil themselves as a favorite in the conference; which shouldn’t really be all that hard to do. In the late points of S42 they showed some potential weakness in the passing game and a strength in the running game. Coming off of a playoff season where they lost in Round 1; AR wants to and perhaps needs to show everyone they’ve improved and can keep that vigorous running attack going against strong defensive teams.

It’s hard to pick a winner for any game in the first week of competition because you really haven’t been able to see what the teams are made of yet.

Winner: Whatever 17-15

Shipwreck Monastery Game of the Week

Palembang Royally Drunken Monks @ Amsterdam Crusaders

PRDM is a team that lost just 1 game in Season 42 in the regular season..honestly to “drop the ball” in the playoffs in an obvious inability to muster anything that resembled an offensive attack. So here’s the real question about Palembang, are they Contenders or Pretenders? They’re going to have to really man up this season against the competitive teams in their conference. They’ll win enough games to get to the playoffs, but if they lose any that they shouldn’t have, well, they could be looking at another first round exit. They give an appearance, based on last season, to struggle against legitimate defenses. Lucky for them, this week, they don’t really face one. Amsterdam is getting a write-up this week because it might be the only time they’re featured. They’re an incomplete team with potential that was absolutely embarrassed in the first round of the playoffs at a lower level last season. A lot would have to change with this team for them to get very far but if they can muster a strong defensive attack, who knows…maybe they can prove me wrong and pull out a win here.

Winner: PRDM 45-3

Fresh Meat Game of the Week

Razorback Nation @ Outlaw 1%ers

Razorback is yet another World League level team that has graced the league with their presence because of a poor S42 (granted at WL level it’s rarely considered poor to get beat by GLB’s best teams). What I can tell you about this team is that if SEO is on board, you might want to pay attention and expect a high level of competition. RN is one of the favorites for the Oceania Conference Championship game right off the bat imo. It might not matter who RN faces this season, it might end up looking like a mack truck backing over a poodle. The Outlaw 1%ers are a high potential team with a strong staff and tons of comradery. This is a team that I genuinely believe could find themselves in the playoffs and a team that I think can make some serious noise. I’m not sure how much week 1 noise they’re going to be able to make because I’m not sure there’s too many teams in the league that can keep up with the Razorback Nation. But I do think they’ll give it their best effort, there is no lack of talent on this team.

Winner: Razorback Nation 37-21

Middle of the Road Game of the week

KC’s Metro Choppers @ Alabama Tidesports Crimson Tide

As much as I hate to say this, I think this game is a case of one team getting to National Pro by default and another simply not being ready to move in one direction or the other. KC was here last year and put forth a .500 season. Their losses were, for the most part, against the better teams in the league, with exception of perhaps Berlin and Stockholm, both of which are no longer in the league, due to competition level/previous season results. Alabama however, only beat teams that they steamrolled in S42 for the most part. You perhaps could argue they beat one team I think was worth mentioned, that being the Amsterdam Crusaders. The rest were either actually leveled for Regional Pro or CPU, so the competition was simply not equal. So with that, it’s very difficult to tell whether, in a tougher league, they would have still gotten to this point. I certainly think that either team can win this game but if I’m going off of track record…well, this ain’t the NCAA.

Winner: KC MC 31-17

Try Hard Game of the Week

Bow Chicka Brown Cows @ The Dead Presidents

One word, for me, describes both of these teams in S42; Disappointing. Both of these teams made it to the playoffs and both of these teams got sent packing after Round 1. Both teams were at least 10 win teams and I think it’s fair to say, expected to do a lot more. BCBC needs to find a way to limit their turnovers, it haunted them in Round 1 of the S42 Playoffs against Morning Glory; and I’ll take “Running Game for a 1,000 Alex”…seriously, do you actually have one? It didn’t seem like it so that’s an area they’re going to need to show improvement against solid defenses. Don’t underestimate them however, there were plenty of games last season where their running game was on full display, against Morning Glory just wasn’t one of them. What’s even more curious is that MG steamrolled BCBC with their own rushing attack. Now, that’s what makes this game the most interesting…for those of us who were here, I think we can all recall that the Dead Presidents seem to be allergic to passing the ball..like..ever. They ran the ball 100% of the time in the playoffs last season and it did not work, their opposition basically shut down their running game. They still scored some points, but not enough to win. Meanwhile their opposition seemed to pass and run at will. So really, this game features two potentially weak run Defenses and two potentially ‘unspectacular’ offenses, with some potential. It’s a real shame that the Dead Presidents already have their ticket to the playoffs stamped as a result of a poor conference filled with CPU and incomplete rosters, otherwise, they might actually have to give some effort toward winning games.

Winner: Bow Chicka Brown Cows 17-14

Dirty MILF game of the Week

Dirty Island Gurupies @ Yo Mama

Don’t let anyone fool you, DIG is a team that a ton of people in this league both respect and fear. They’re going to be one of the more competitive teams in the league but they also happen to be in a very competitive conference, the more competitive conference of the league. There isn’t much that needs to be said about S42, they lost in the 2nd round to a team that is now in World League, there’s no shame in that and to top it off, they were a FG from taking that game into OT. Yo Mama is another team that can’t really take shame in their S42 results, a second round loss to the Gurupies of New Orleans though could be somewhat of a bad omen. Both of these teams are coming off of strong performances and have very strong rosters and staffs. Frankly this could easily be the game of the week; but I have another one in mind for that.

Winner: Dirty Island Gurupies 27-24

Midnight Showcase Game of the Week

Sumatra is one of my two picks for the Oceania Conference Championship. Carthage Clash, I see no reason they can’t be a playoff team. Both of these teams have a strong roster, a strong staff, and a strong resume. Both of these teams are World League capable and experienced; this game, to me, is going to one of the two Showcase Game of the Week. This is going to be uglier than beating a red headed step child with a chainsaw.

Winner: Sumatra Seahawks 55-49

Happy Hour Showcase Game of the Week

Moun Krakatoa Eruption @ L.A. Resistencia

This could actually be the most well rounded matchup of the week. Both of these teams have the potential to be league champions; both of these teams have extremely talented roster. The more interesting part of this matchup is that they each get a “free Scouting Report” in the first game of Preseason, because this is the exact same matchup they’ll see. This is one of those games where I think it could showcase two “middle of the road” teams that could sneak up on more dominant teams as the season goes along. They’re the type that might fly under the radar a bit..well, not my radar, but perhaps other less caring folk.

Ultimately, I think this matchup comes down to efficiency; I expect both teams to perform well, but turnovers is going to do one of these teams in, imo, the question is, which team will it be that creates them?

Winner: L.A. Resistencia 35-31

I'm predicting a 7-1 (maybe 4-3 at worst) record for Oceania vs SEA after week one, on the above games

They'll be a bit more 'accurate' and statistically driven when we have some actual seasonal games to base things off of.

Oceana looks to be far, far better than SEA. It's really pretty sad.

Yeah what's worse is that, some of those SEA teams are going to walk into the playoffs just because of the CPU & incomplete teams, not because they faced tough competition and prevailed. The level of the conferences IMO, isn't even close

I agree. This about as bad as I have seen it before in a Pro League.
