Still ridiculous that they don't even pretend to care anymore. Not even an announcement about the server issues on the day of the gold games

I once worked for one of the major document recorders in the country. I said repeatedly that we really needed to start swapping out from the old style of microfish and microfilm methods and start getting this stuff on computer disk before our competition did. I was told, repeatedly, that it would cost too much to do that. Besides we had just hired 300 new employees and gained several new major contracts, We went from a 1 shift plant to a 3 shift plant in less than 3 months. Then 9-11 hit. The rules changed. And the company said, "it's all good. we'll get fired back up soon and get right back to normal." I said, now would be the time to start to switch over to computer-based storage... they said it cost too much and we're fine... everything is fine. And so it seemed when we fired up a month later... 3 shifts... then, right after a huge company meeting where they said we were 'doing great and should see major improvements in the coming months'... they held another meeting and said they were going to have to "let go" of 400 employees because of the damage the delays had cost and that they really needed to re-vamp the system and switch over to computer scanners and disk storage. I survived the first cut because they needed me to run the new scanners so they could get a system down. I was let go 4 months later... the company folded about 2 more months after that.
This whole situation here has too many similarities to that for me to name. But one thing in common was a distinct lack of head leadership being honest and keeping everyone informed... until it was too late to do anything but walk out the door and go look for a new job.
