Did I miss "Great Lanes Bowling"? I thought that was going to be the new GLB.

Hey, don't joke about that. Bowl Lane Glitz could still become a reality.

Archetypes only really added "extra" SPs to certain builds for certain positions, and even then they were only really "catching up" those builds to other builds of that position. They did, however, open the doors a bit wider for more varied builds.

Bigger culprits were the new training system, AEQ, and raising the level cap. The training system only really served to make the game more obtuse and give tryhards more of an advantage. AEQ adding SAs and percents was fun, adding an extra 9 to 12 to speed did nothing good for the game. Raising the level cap was just flat out unnecessary power creep.

I always thought the game was the best in the 40-50s range. People maximizing attributes actually suffered in other areas at that point, and EQ wasn't adding thousands and thousands of SP value.

They added SP's to all positions. The added SP after so many boosts was never there before. Getting to level 79 wasn't possible for anyone except the people who had select Kickers/Punters at the time. The important thing it provided was allowing defenders the ease of which to gain the right AEQ and enough tackling/strength numbers while not hurting much else to their build. And yes the training system and ALG's certainly were all part of the same package.

I just remember when archtypes were announced, it basically killed off most of a season's worth of dots because everyone wanted to start fresh with the new method. It seemed like that more than anything changed how the game was played from a builder perspective.

Yeah, archetypes also destroyed my power WR at the time.
I was taking advantage of the WR's having only 2 secondary attributes so carrying gained 0.5 ALG's per level while the primaries gained 0.33 per level. I always thought that was some lazy attribute assignment but I wanted to make a sweet Power WR... but archetypes made my player really really mediocre compared to what could've been done which kind of sucked because I had created a really intricate plan and was trying really hard with that WR, and my dot got nerfed so hard.

Oh well... none of it matters anymore.

thats what destroyed GLB 1 - because in Bort's mind (rightly or wrongly) it meant that he couldnt/wouldnt push through any more big changes here. Instead he started GLB2.

And that was that.

the addition of the advanced AI

all GLB was originally like casual (with no presets or packages).

there's been lots of updates to the system since then, but that initial decision to go away from a simple game completely changed the face of GLB

...well it was explained to me that the changes that needed to be made couldn't coz some of the changes were already hard-coded into the game ...so it would be like a piece of script would need to be cut out of the game and the developers would then be required to build from that if they were going to fix GLB1

...and that was what I expected was going to happen with GLB2 ...what actually happened, I don't know ...but from what I hear, GLB2 didn't go in the right direction from there ...if they went in that direction at all?!?
