I wasn't aware you had the stats on every single training roll on every single player in the game for multiple days. Clearly you must have those stats, or else you wouldn't make such a definitive statement. My apologies.

it was pretty obvious

Well, it's all RNG, right?

If you flip a coin an infinite number of times, there will be some occasionally rare sequences where you'll get heads fifty times in a row. There will also be more common stretches where, over the course of a thousand flips or so, heads will come up more than tails, and other similar stretches where tails will come up more than heads.

Granted, we're dealing with a weighted coin here, one weighted so that heads will come up 90% of the time instead of 50%. But that just makes the scenarios I mentioned above less likely -- but still not impossible.

So, congratulations. Y'all just lived through a stretch where tails came up a bit more often than it statistically "should" come up.

/statistics

(Of course, "secret bug fixed by stealth nerf" is more fun, so have at it. )

it was not a stretch where tails came up a bit more often than it statistically "should" come up. Not by any stretch.

Someone should ask Bort.

Anyone in here on his white-list?

Uhmm, yeah, it's was borted for a couple days where 90%+ of trains would give a breakthrough for some reason. Why? No clue since the code isn't "supposed" to be changed w/o a changelog cite. But, for whatever reason, yeah, breakthroughs went through the proverbial roof. Heck I had 13 in a row one day. And next day had 90%+ rate as well. So what gives? Something changed with no log entry. And then, BAM! Changed back, but now it's worse because breakthroughs don't happen anymore - or at least their frequency is less than it was before the abnormalities occurred. So, what's the deal?

One day = normal breakthroughs
Next day(s) = 90% breakthroughs
Days after = no breakthroughs

Doesn't take a damned rocket scientist to figure out that they're screwing with or screwed with the code and then "fixed" it wrong.

Par for the GLB course, TBPH.

It must have been an easter egg.

Novus, being ignorant is not the end of the world and everyone makes ignorant comments from time to time. What makes you worthy of facepalms is that you choose to argue in defense of your ignorant points, not only after I point out the comment was ignorant (which really should be all you need) but multiple people doing so. I'm guessing a lot of us have extensive statistical understanding. Your operating assumption that no one posting in this thread had a rudimentary understanding of chance made you look absurd. Stop making things worse by defending your ridiculous comment and let it die.

Are you on Bort's white-list, jdbolick? Surely someone of your esteemed stature can ask Bort questions like this and get answers.

Is that a no?

I guess that's a no.

Anyone else on Bort's white-list? Seems to me he should be made aware of this thread regardless, and that'll get a solution a lot faster than jd and I yelling at each other.

Please stop posting; at this point there is no further enjoyment to be had from you making a fool of yourself. And how is your comprehension of people's posts so bad that you don't realize it was already fixed?

Why are you so against getting a public response from Bort on this?

I would think you and I could both agree that GLB1 would benefit from more attention from Bort at this point, not less.

Ah well. If you guys aren't curious enough to ask the big guy for more info, neither am I. Peace out, yo.
