Playoffs Primer S39 - Round 1

The West

Zanzibar Zombie Monkies vs. Houston Colt .45's - S38 running up Zanzibar finished at the top of the West and face 8th seed Houston who got in by winning enough at the right time. This is going to be the #1 offense and defense against the #2 passing offense in the West. So the game will go Zanzibar's way. Houston will have to have the defense to break the run blocking on Zanzibar to have a chance. Zanzibar handily beat Houston in their regular season meeting 101-0. Prediction: Zanzibar 63 - 0 Houston
Woerth Shamrocks vs. Arrowhead Maniacs - Woerth has put on some fantastic games lately as if they have found their stride heading into the playoffs. Woerth has a balanced defense to worth with and Arrowhead will have to find someway to shut this down to stay in this game. I am not liking the rush defense bar (42) in this matchup for Arrowhead. Woerth beat Arrowhead 43-0 in Week 16. Arrowhead is also behind on levels so unless Arrowhead is saving some boosts, I see Woerth winning this one. Prediction: Woerth 31 - 0 Arrowhead
Durham Blue Devils vs. Shadow Phoenix - This has a potential to be an interesting matchup. You have Shadow with the #1 passing yards offense against the #9 passing defense of Durham. On the flip side is Durham with a more potent rushing attack than passing against the #11 rush defense of Shadow. Durham won their regular season meeting 45-6 on the road. Durham's rushing game will win out in the end. Prediction: Durham 33 - 9 Shadow
Wisconsin Beer Haulers vs. Planet Express - Wisconsin started off the regular season on the wrong foot after losing its first two games and had a hard time keeping up with the leaders in the Conference. The shocking loss against Planet Express in the regular season piled on to their woe. They rely heavily on rQBs with other minor rushing options. However, Wisconsin has a stout defense to keep the other teams honest. Planet is also another rush-first team but with a slightly above average rush defense (6th overall) and a weak passing defense(11th overall). The outcome? Well, Planet found some way to stop the rush in their regular season matchup and it may be a prudent decision to continue. If this is the case, Wisconsin will have to find a way to adapt. While I favor Wisconsin in this matchup, I believe it gets down to tactics. Prediction: Wisconsin 24 - 10 Planet

The East

B. O. S. S. vs. OffTopica Forgiveness - These two faced each other in Week 16 and B.O.S.S. defeated OffTopica 138-0. I do not see this changing much when referencing OffTopica's Rush (57) and Pass Defense(48) bars at this level. Prediction: B.O.S.S. 70 - 0 OffTopica
S.Florida Killer Pythons vs. Heisenberg Full Measures - The #1 rush offense will stretch its legs against Heisenburg. S. Florida has, imo, the most expanded team of rushing attack while having a good semblance of a passing game. A handful to deal with if you are a DC. Heisenberg is a team that has shown flashes of toughness in games with having the #1 passing attack and a middle of the field defense (7th overall). S. Florida shows a rush defense bar of 54 which an OC might consider a weak point but unfortunately, Heisenberg is a passing offense so we will see S. Florida win this one. Prediction: S. Florida 35 - 7 Heisenberg
The Bus Drivers vs. Seattle Wave - The Bus Drivers are another balanced team of rushing and passing. They have had above average passing and rushing during the season. Seattle brings a compliment of rushing HBs but suffer from having their foot off the throttle in the passing department. This was a close game in the regular season with a win going to The Bus Drivers 33-21. I'm kind of on the fence on this one. Seattle is going to run so I would expect TBD to explore more rush defense options. TBD did not have much passing luck against Seattle so I expect a decent rush vs rush game. Prediction: The Bus Drivers 17 - 10 Seattle
The LEGION'S Alpha Quadrant vs. Carolina Underground - Finally we get to our final matchup and, on paper, the closest thing we have to a toss up. Both teams are pretty evenly matched on offense and defense. All the stats down the line are almost dead even with the exception of Carolina giving up 35% more passing yardage. In the regular season, this matchup was the only tie of a score of 13-13. A true nail-biter this one is being setup for where I'm sure there will be a lot of agent's asses grabbing a bite out of their chairs as this game progresses. Prediction: LEGION's 13 - 10 Carolina

If history is any indicator -- We can beat (or tie) Carolina in the regular season.

But they seem to take us in the playoffs -- or every tournament we enter.

thanks. it was a big challenge, but fun these last 3 seasons. I learned a lot about the game and improved each season. I am esp happy with the progress we made on offense. Good luck to all but not WylieCowboy...at least not when he is playing us.

Playoffs Primer S39 - Round 2

The West

Zanzibar Zombie Monkies vs. Planet Express - Zanzibar starts its playoff win with a predictable strong win over Houston. Zanzibar naturally used a primary rush again mixing it up with its QBs and HBs. Zanzibar also came out with a passing game as well to easily defeat Houston. Planet Express provided the first shocker of the playoffs by ousting Wisconsin. Zanzibar defeated Planet in the regular season 34-10 and I think this will continue as I do not think Planet has the defense to stop the rushing attack of Zanzibar an entire game. Prediction: Zanzibar 36 - 3 Planet
Woerth Shamrocks vs. Durham Blue Devils - Here is a matchup that, on paper, could be a coin toss. Woerth had a slow going against Arrowhead in round 1 but enough to get a 16-0 victory. Durham survived a near shootout against Shadow winning 30-20. What also makes this game interesting is Woerth defeated Durham in Week 15. At this time, Durham was in the #1 seed but Durham failed to defend against Woerth in this match. Woerth has the team to win this one and has been consistent in their play and will need this to win. My concern with Durham is their defensive consistency in the big matches. They game up a lot in the prior Woerth match just as they allowed Shadow to stay in the game in Round 1. Durham needs to get their defense sorted if they are going win this one. Prediction: On Paper - Durham 13 - 10 Woerth though another defense mishap Woerth 17 - 7 Durham.

The East

B. O. S. S. vs. The LEGION's Alpha Quadrant - B.O.S.S. defeated OffTopica by a large margin as predicted and now face LEGION's who won a predicted nail biter over Carolina in OT. In the regular season meeting, B.O.S.S. defeated LEGION's 37-3 early in the season. Much like B.O.S.S., LEGIONS has brought a good balanced attack all season. I do not believe B.O.S.S. should take LEGIONs lightly but I think B.O.S.S. is just a little ahead of them. I think this will be a close one in the first half but then B.O.S.S. will slowly start to take over the game and win in the end. Also, I would not bet against my own team. Prediction: B.O.S.S. 17 - 3 The LEGION's Alpha Quadrant
S.Florida Killer Pythons vs. The Bus Drivers - The second and third place teams take aim at each other in round 2. Florida had a larger than predicted win over Heisenberg showing early muscle. TBD grabbed a last second win over Seattle with a field goal to get to round 2. What was interesting in that game was Seattle had an early 21-0 lead over TBD but TBD began to slowly chip away at Seattle to win. Florida defeated TBD in the regular season 23-0 in a rushing exhibition. Florida's rushing and blocking are tops in the league and hard to stop. I cannot see Florida moving away from a rushing game that is working for them. TBD needs to stop this as its priority and then figure a plan to break through that Florida defense or it is lights out for them. Prediction: S. Florida 17 - 3 The Bus Drivers
