Depends on the player types the other team has, the formations they like to use, the personnel groupings they like to use, the types of running plays they use, whether they're all-running or just heavy-running...

If you're looking for an awesome all-purpose insta-stop rushing D, there isn't one, or else everyone would be using it.

You're really just going to have to watch tape on the opponent and take notes. Figure out what they're going to do against you in any given situation, and set up your defense to stop it.

There's no magic-bullet solution that ever replaces just scouting your opponent. None.

Well... the ol' Chicago Bears 52 defense worked real well. Too bad GLB doesn't consider the 52 a real defense.

The 46 came AFTER the 52. The 52 is still used by some college teams but once upon a time it was a Bears staple (Yup... old enough to remember that... and George Blanda when he was young. )
