I have a 'scrambler' QB. I have both run and scramble frequency set to 'often' but the guy never leaves the pocket and runs, down field or laterally.

Any tips to get him too, seems a waste at this point.

this

RQBs are useful as runners on QB run plays if they are built right.

Scrambling is a disaster at best.

In my experience.

Given the right circumstances a scramble can be a huge game-changer. Unfortunately, it isn't something you can consistently get to fire as you would like. To make it really work you really have to use a true running QB and set up a series of pass progressions that you know will be covered. There are three possible outcomes...

Success - Works as the OC intended. The RQB makes the (bad) reads and takes off out of the pocket. Usually these are longer routes so there's tons of running room.

Middle - The QB actually makes the throw. Usually an incomplete pass, but sometimes you'll get a lucky grab (usually against an unexpected coverage). I don't call this a success because an interception is also likely.

Failure - Unexpected pressure (or good containment) and the QB tucks the ball and takes a sack.

Just like normal passing QBs, it takes the right progressions to make it work. And, no, I'm not the one that can explain the right progressions. lol

can you set the reads to just go WR1 - WR1 - WR1 - WR1 - WR1 ?

Perfect example of Middle. If either G or the C had engaged the C this could've been a huge play.

we get a lot of success from "middle"
in fact its a huge part of our game plans.
we GP for the QB designed runs, and for what you call "middle"
the actual runs from the pocket are too unpredictable for us to really GP it.

wish she had got to the next read, the HB

still it works out. our pQB probably doesnt make it to either of the RB reads there-
our line is built to run block, so its hard to give the stationary QB enough time to get through the progression.

if anything, Tif da Cat over scrambles, even occasionally into a sack.
still, she buys a lot of time and it can turn into real nice plays for us:

there's a more 'classic' roll out
http://www.wiki.goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2261335&pbp_id=1371752
here, she rolls out to avoid the pressure and finds her man
http://www.wiki.goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2276103&pbp_id=2127426
our pQB takes a sack there for sure.

luckily she glanced back to the TE right before she tucked it. she never stops moving...
http://www.wiki.goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2261322&pbp_id=957679
again, she never stops moving
http://www.wiki.goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2261325&pbp_id=520361
no wher to go, but buys some time
http://www.wiki.goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2261325&pbp_id=521589
runs herself in and out of a sack... the way we sometimes have to claw and scratch to get
any pass yardage at all, it really helps to get something, even if we're not getting 99 yard plays all the time...

now here's where it hurts, cost us a sure TD on this play:

darn, keep your eyes upfield! she did that like 3 times that game. but eventually made the big one.

i would say, to look for how much the rQB yr using moves around in the pocket, compared to the pQB
sometimes a little scramble can pay more dividends then taking off from the pocket.
