How exactly do you advance through leagues and make it to gold league?

to get from copper to silver you just need to keep the team.
all 5 silver league winners get promoted along with the 3 best silver runners up

its peewee, aint like you got to build your team up over a few seasons.
ETA: was more than 1 yesterday...and will be more than 1 available at start of next season as well I would bet.
