edit (By Chysil): made the thread title something that wouldn't need a lock because I feel it's a legit issue. The discussion is that first time voter's votes count for about 1/9th of what an active voter's vote counts for.

It's there so people can't abuse the Karma system. However, it may need to be tweaked so will leave this open for discussion on the suggestion.

There has to be something in place so people can't abuse the vote down or vote up (b/c people will just go vote something down b/c they don't like the user and not because of the post itself, etc.) but it has to also work as intended so that legitimate posts that need locked/hidden do or the system fails.

Here's an idea. Give them MORE points for voting more (because, you know, that makes sense). But give them a limited number of votes per day (not something stupid like you'd probably give them if this actually happened, but something like 30).

I didn't implement this fwiw, no mod did

I do like the limited number of votes/day idea though.

And to prevent abuse of THAT system, you could also limit it to like 5 per hour, so that people don't spam a bunch of votes at the end just to make them worthwhile
