Is there a penalty to using the FB as a starting RB? The reason I ask is in a new team we have two good FBs - one is a runner and one a pure blocker. We would like to start the running FB as HB and the blocker as FB so both see the field. Is there a penalty in the game to do this?

There is probably a small one. Try it and see how it works!

I tried to get my coach to put my FB as HB during the scrimmages last season, but he wouldn't do it.

I read somewhere of an "out of position" penalty and I want to say it was a 10% hit.
Don't quote me on it, but I think that's what it was.

That could get costly quick when you start talkin' 2nd & 3rd year players.

Yeah, it may be better to start the rushing FB at FB and have him backup at HB. Then, the "main" FB could come in when he backs up.

I'm not sure...but I would think the penalty would be the same.
If so, fuck it, just start him if that's what you really want to do.

My thinking is that if we set HB-FB carries at 50-50, then he starts FB and backs up HB - he will probably get 70% of his carries as the starting FB and 30% as the backup HB. So, the penalty won't be as large as if he started at HB.

That's too much math for me Bro.

I think even as a back-up the 10% is still gonna hit him if he's RB2.
