What this is
Free agency remains split among the two advertising types because of two opposing forces--two major wants:
-Many agents want the discussion of a forum thread
-Many recruiters want the searchability of the marketplace

This suggestion would allow both needs to be fulfilled by creating a system that ties the Marketplace ad with the Players Looking for Teams forum thread(s).

How it works
1. Agent has a free agent. He goes to his player page and clicks the "Advertise Player" button. This replaces the old "Free Agency Ad Options" button. This also eliminates the redundant step that currently exists with the Add Listing button on the next page.

2. A page comes up on which the agent can create a Marketplace ad and a players looking for team forum thread at the same time. This is like the old Marketplace ad creation with a new option to automatically create a Forum thread in the appropriate subforum under players looking for teams, based on player position and age.

3. The agent checks the box to create a forum thread and gives his forum thread a title fills the desired Marketplace fields, then clicks Update Ad.
A page comes up which shows the ad and also has a link to the forum thread. This is like the old View Ad page with the addition of the thread link and status.

4. When recruiters browse the Players Looking For Teams forum, they can see the forum thread just like before.

5. Clicking either from the forum or for the Marketplace ad takes you to the automatically-created thread.

6. The forum thread can now be replied to, edited, etc, as normal.

7. When recruiters browse the Marketplace, they can see the ad listing as before, and they can also see a link to the forum thread. If agents desire, they can use the ad title to tell recruiters that they should post in the forum thread if they want to recruit the player.

8. Agents with more than one free agent player can go to the My FAs tab and create a thread in the main Players Looking for Teams Forums.

In this way they can keep their forum discussion in one thread, and recruiters looking for players of that position and age can see the agent's players from the Marketplace and be directed to the combined forum thread.

9. When an agent's player(s) get signed, the associated players looking for teams forum thread(s) get locked automatically. Thus recruiters don't bother clicking on stale threads, and agents don't have to update them to say "signed". Retracting the ad would also lock the thread (i.e. if the player is committed to a team but not yet signed).

The end result
1. Agents can still advertise on the forums
2. Recruiters can find all advertising free agents in the Marketplace using all of the useful options that the Marketplace provides.
3. Forum threads are automatically created in the correct subforum (no 120 day old players posting in the 41-80 day old player subforum).
4. Automatic thread cleanup when players get signed.

-1. Too complex and not integrated enough.

IMO, fix the marketplace so each ad's 'Ad' (text), 'Comments' and reply section function & look like a forum. Make each new FA posting automatically make a Players Looking For Team 'post' in the correct area. But make that post link directly to the new forumized player posting. Basically, each marketplace ad becomes a forum posting with the build info on the left and other quick info at the top. The ad and post are the same thing in the same place, you just have the option of searching through the Marketplace or browsing the forums. And because the 'Ad' area is replaced with a forum thread, any info that might only be in the thread in some other system is also there in the ad for easy viewing.

I'd be ok with this method as well. I like the idea of the forum link going directly to the ad.

If done that way, in the scenario when the agent chooses the option to use a single thread in PLFT for all his players, and chooses not to have a separate forum thread for an individual player, the ad could link to the unified PLFT thread of containing a player forum thread.

Either way, the major goals are accomplished of making everyone searchable from the marketplace and keeping a forum option, and tying the two together.
