Watch a whole lot of film.

I have learned from watching a lot of replays of my team and comparing it to the top teams. The scout tool will teach you a lot as well.

Good luck!

At the end of the season look at the rosters of the top teams and see how many players and what type they put at the different positions. Then scout their team and see what plays they used. This should give you a good idea of what works.

Also find a good, active upper level team. Not easy to do but spread some players around and you might get lucky. You can learn lots from their forums and their coordinators.

Develop a system for game planning. GLB sucks up lots of time and you've got to learn to be efficient.

Don't give up.

More than anything posted yet, learn how to maximize training. There are several different philosophies, and more than one work based on the type of offense/defense you're going to run. However, if you don't figure training out, you'll constantly be 8-10 or more SP behind towards the end of the season.

For example, I just went down my roster on the offensive side. We have a few dots with an SP value of 219, a few around 208, and the majority are in the 214.5-216 range. If you're roster has dots in the 205-208 range and you're playing a team that is 215-218, then you're basically down anywhere from 1-3 levels, maybe more if CEQ is a factor. Maximizing your training will neutralize that and keep you on top of things.

All very good points. Also I'd suggest maybe talking to some of the guys who run successful teams if you have any specific questions. Most people are willing to take a couple minutes out of their day to answer a quick question or two as long as it isn't super broad.

Also. Scrimmages. Enter every tourney you can, shoot out random scrimmages to teams if you have to. Best way to learn is to practice practice practice and test out stuff in meaningless games and figure out what types of plays work for your team. Having trouble stopping the QB runs? Send a scrim over to a team who uses a lot of them and try out some new ideas. Want to see how you do against a really strong run defense? Find a team who stuffs the run and then try to figure out how to get around it. Scrims are really the only way to get the practice and experience needed, especially sine there are only 5-8 games in league play that aren't just automatic blowouts.

Anyone wanting a scrim can send one to my DSBM team. It's a Copper team, but it's solid -- not great, but solid. We got a late start as I didn't buy the team until late, but it's all solid, proven agents. It's a no boost/no CEQ team, so we may be anywhere from 1-3 levels behind, but the dots will still move in the right directions. If you're wanting scrims to test/learn, it's a great squad to play.

I'll even load up some offensive plays if you want to test your defense against certain things.

Very true, try this. It's how I learned most of what I know, asking around on the forum or in PMs.

I learned a lot from just hanging around in the gold forums and reading what people thought of the current sim and that sort of thing. not like theres any productive discussion going on in there anymore with perma around lol

Take in as much advice as you can, getting connected with an organization of veteran agents and soak in what they share with you. Watching film never hurts either. If you have questions about builds from what you see in replays just message the agent asking if they're willing to share info with you. Most will I'm guessing. Other then that just be active.

this ^^

but basicaly what everyone is saying about asking around the leagues, if you go to the gold league most if not all teams will take the time to explain sumthing to you, i spent about 2 seasons practicing on my team and also asking a ton of questions to most of the gold league owners and even now i ask things, dont be afraid to ask

also what juiceweezl is so right, you dont quite realise it until you look at the numbers, and tbh i still dont get the training thing at all, which is why come the end of the season my builds are usually behind most others, but im still learning as i go
