I have a question about blitzing:
If you send a Safety blitz from cover 2, for instance, how does the zone covearge work? Does the corner drop back into the deep zone? or does the other safety play a cover 1 look? or does nothing happen and you essentially leave a deep half free for the other team to exploit?

There's no sure answer for that. Right now, the AI leaves the gap open. It would be highly recommended to avoid blitzing a safety in a cover two in general since they start so far back. If you plan on blitzing your SS, use cover 1 or 3.

Yea cheers, I was really just using it as an easy example to visualize but thanks for the reply anyway

Well, if I am setting up plays and I want a safety blitz, I don't think I'll be choosing cover 2. Cover 0, cover 1, or cover 3 would be your options that will work.
If you choose cover two w/ a safety blitz, you deserve to get burned.

Some of the offensive formations described in the first post do not match up to GLB plays. I don't know if Bort will change, but as I understand it, he didn't make new plays but just gives us the opportunity to select and modify the existing ones. Therefor should be a matchup to each setting and a formation already existing in GLB.

Now here is how I would matchup to GLB formations (please correct if wrong):

I (any variation)
In GLB, this seems to be the "regular" I-formation (2 WR, 1 TE strongside = right). I think, this is a play instead of a setting "offense shows any variation of I-formation"

Weak I
Just about the same as should be.

Strong I
Just about the same as should be.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=6877518

Big I
That formation seems to look A LOT different from theory. I believe, thats the formation that drives DCs nuts right now, for it has 3 WRs, but 2 lined up strong side. As GLB lines up a third CB always on the weak side, that leaves the strongside CB covering 2 WRs:

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/scarletmbb/BigIformation.png
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=6877128
(compare: both TEs are WRs in GLB)
GLB has only one play when 2 WRs line up strong side. On every other set, the third WR lines up weak side (left).

In fact, the only way to defend that play properly is to set up a dime defense (4 CBs) - for the third CB lines up weak side and you'll need another CB on strong side.

Single Back
GLB has no TE in the slot, but a WR. So it is the "normal" 3 WR set in GLB.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=6877536
(HB is behind QB, if the HB is right next to the QB it is shotgun and 3 WRs)

Single Back BIG
If you see 2 TEs, it's a Single Back Big:

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=6876499

Pro Set
Just about the same as should be.

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/scarletmbb/ProSetFormation.png
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=6877825

Shotgun
These plays are tricky in GLB. So you better describe them in the "input" by shotgun formation AND number of WRs.

3 WRs - Gun Doubles left
http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd314/tpaterniti/Gun_Doubles_Left.jpg
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=6876557
(HB right next to the QB - if HB is behind QB it's a single back)

5 WR - Gun Trips Open
http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd314/tpaterniti/Gun_Trips_Open.jpg
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=5813595

Goal Line
That one looks way different in GLB.

......................SS.....................MLB
...CB...RDE...RDE...DT.....NT...LE...LE...LOLB...CB
.....TE.....LT...LG...C...RG...RT...TE
..............................OB.........................TE

..............................FB
..............................HB

'Cause what gives the Cover-2 that name is because there 2 guys covering deep, and all the other guys covering will share an equal part of the field between the LOS and the 15/20 yards deep where the S are covering.

So if you send a SS to blitz, probably somebody will drop to cover deep in his place, leaving less guys to cover the not-deep area.

Damn, wtf Did i said here??

That isn't a Big I, isn't that just an "I" variation???

Well - just watch any game. You can just matchup EVERY offensive lineup to the settings (thats how codes work: have some input, choose one by random and rules applied).

If anyone can point out a lineup that comes closer to Big I - my matchup is probably wrong.

In GLB, the SS almost all the time covers the TE. That even applies when TE is already in double coverage and it doesn't matter if the strongside WR is going deep. Only FS does his job.

Is this not the case?

nope, afraid not.

ROLB & MLB are in nickel.
MLB is in dime.

kind of lame. ur LOLB usually is ur best because of all the runs to the right. makes sense to program it to leave him in. in order to have the LOLB be a 3 down guy, you have to put him where there's no action? c'mon!

Is there a way to put your LOLB in the game in passing situations? Either through the AI controls or through some form of depth chart manipulation?

You could force him on dime packages (4 WRs). Put him on depth chart for CB as #4, set advanced energy settings for CB to like 10 out, 12 in. That way, the guys don't mix up. But your LB will play CB and get a penalty. Besides that, your backup CBs won't play any snaps and starters will burn out.

Good news. GLB has learned to line up a nickel vs. the Big I formation. So now you might call that without giving up instantly.
