WEEK 1: NAMIBIA SLUGS 20, HOUNDS OF ANUBIS 14

VALLEY OF THE KINGS (AP) -- The visiting Hounds came out barking but were unable to stop the slow trickle of the slimy Slugs in Friday night's season-openener.

Namibia (1-0) scored twice during a wild second quarter, added a touchdown in the third quarter and tacked on a field goal late to eke out a six-point win over the Hounds of Anubis (0-1).

The Slugs got on the scoreboard first when quarterback Toad Mushroom hit a wide-open Ludith Rice over the middle for a 14-yard touchdown pass just over a minute into the second-quarter. The Hounds responded with a TD on their next drive, an 11-play, 53 yard drive that included a 14-yard pass to tight end Thug Vunderkint and a two-yard dive by running back Ken U. Digget.

Namibia broke the 7-7 tie with a 48-yard field goal about six minutes later, with 2:52 left on the clock.

With time running out on the half, Anubis took over on its own 43, marching the ball downfield with a lightning-quick passing game spearheaded by quarterback Coby Maxwell.

And then all Thuul broke loose.

On second and 10 from the 25, with just 1:47 remaining in the half, Hounds running back Nicodareus Thuul took a pitch left from Maxwell and neatly sidestepped defensive end Peter B. Dragon, who had spent most of the first half terrorizing the Anubis backfield with bull rushes. Thuul then outran blitzing linebacker Da Cheat to the corner and coasted around a nice seal block by wide receiver Al Klaz, breaking up the right sideline.

Middle lineback Big Baby Sweets had a wide-open shot at Thuul at the 15, but the agile running back juked right before breaking left -- leaving Sweets nearly shoeless and doing his own impression of "Peter B. Dragon." The Slugs had one more shot at Thuul, but it ended abprutly with free safety Dion Brandon being knocked nearly unconscious at the 7 while Thuul high-stepped into the end zone.

That would be it for the Hounds offense, though, as Anubis amassed just 30 yards of offense in the third quarter and 47 in the fourth quarter.

Thuul finished the game with 46 yards on 12 rushes and the long touchdown run, but fumbled twice. Maxwell was 14-for-26 for 110 yards and was picked once.

The Hounds defense was led by cornerback "Go the Mickapeckalin," who had eight tackles, four passes defensed and an interception in the end zone that stopped Namibia's opening drive of the game. Defensive tackle John Mark Marino had seven tackles, including four tackles for loss and a pair of quarterback hurries.

The Hounds (0-1) play their next game Sunday against the Mali Mirage (1-0), which won its opener after a 26-23 squeaker against the Babylon Bombshells.

Well written. One of the best, if not the best, article I've seen on the forums.

Hopefully, it's written in the same vein after your game against us tomorrow.

Good luck, but not too much of it.
