Good write up Thunder!

However, I have to disagree with one point, and that is that you must save your initial 15 SP's until your 1st regular season game. I feel that there are times you should, but other times you shouldn't. If you are going to the 2nd or higher cap in a certain skill, then yes, you want to normal train that skill during the off season while saving those initial 15 SP.

But what if you want a more balanced player who's primary skill is only 1st cap or just mid-50's? Then I don't think you want to save your initial 15 SP's because you won't be training your primary skill in the off-season, but rather intense training your 2nd/3rd skills. So why would you wait, there is no benefit to it other than deception.

Example: Say you want a good combo back for Pee-Wee. Speed is still the primary skill, but you don't need 2nd cap, I would say 1st cap should work, as you will put all your EQ/CEQ into it as well. Here, I would bring Speed to 25 and the rest into Agility at char creation. Then I would then apply my initial 15 SP into Speed bringing it to 40, pending I use a balanced weight/height, and start to intense train Strength/Carrying. I should hit the 1st cap after only a few levels, and then switch the SP's into Agility while continuing to intense train Strength/Carrying and throw a bone here and there to Vision.

So basically, follow Thunder's advice if you want to bring your primary skills to 2nd cap or higher. But if you are going for a more balanced build, I don't think saving your initial 15 SP does anything other than a little deception.

I think you're right because then builds would be more like those at a higher level but scaled down, but that would be true one-use players.

Note quite true. I've hit level 11 with some non-boosters, so level 14 is not out of reach. On the other hand, it is going to be pretty rare (max XP all season), so you shouldn't plan on it.

I wonder how feasible it will be to hit 11/14 now that they've changed the rules for max XP to require half as many plays....

My QB this last season hit level 14 on the last night of daily XP

Pretty much max XP all season, looking at the history there were a few games I didn't get max but they were close

That's all true, but I wasn't going for perfection (gold teams will have their own build guides that are somewhat different to this, and have different routes to get there), I was just making something that a copper player could use as well as a new guy in gold. So there are different/better ways to do certain things, but at the end of the day this is a good starting point for most agents.

You have a valid point...but I think it's better for team owners to just tell everyone to wait until just before the first game. It's less confusing for the agents and you helps avoid people screwing it up. If this is for ALL PW teams, then a lot of copper & silver teams will have people screw this up. I think it's sound advice for him to tell everyone just to wait rather than take the risk just for some players to be a little better during preseason scrimmages.

You can still tell them to hold sps and low and behold they will spend them anyways. I had to cut a new agent who was building us a passing QB because he spent his sps and was training the same damn thing he spent them on. If that wasn't bad enough , he wasn't even training on intense. Then wonders why did I cut him.
