Ladies and Gentlemen, Welcome to the grand finale of the Season 14 GLB ADDICTS Casual League Champions Tourney. It's been a long season already, and with 10 games in the books and numerous scrimmages besides, these teams just have to be running on fumes. But at least two teams are still running strong, the two teams we all knew would still be blowing holes in D-lines and crushing QB's dreams worse than Kim Kardashian crushes Reggie Bush...
Innnnn the Eastern corner, we have the Numero Uno ranked Diablo Dots, helmed by their fearless leader, the man with the steel grin, The Avennnnnger! Standing seven foot eight, three hundred and seventy five pounds, with the Casual League trophies to back it up, in the Western corner, the gargantuan, mammoth, unstoppable force that is the Wellington Spitfires, run by their own Leviathan of Leaders, McDuffy!
These two teams, ranked 1 and 2 respectively, have destroyed the competition en route to their second match-up of the season. Tensions have simmered between these two teams for over a season, with the Diablo Dots squeaking by 21-17 in the first round of this possible 3 round fight. In round two, expect the Wellington, which has actually stopped time and seems to have gotten younger, to try and even the season series at 1 apiece.
The Spitfires are TWO time defending champions of these tourney, a fact that The Avenger is well aware of. I caught up with him in the shower following his latest trouncing, an 85-10 fistsmash against the Bay Area Bulls. Asked for comment, he told me, "The Spitfires have outright owned this mid-season tourney 2 times in a row. It's going to take one hell of a gameplan at his point to end that tourny win streak. We plan on taking care of our backyard first like we always do. Then we'll let the D.DOT Lawnmower take care of the weeds!" I could tell by the look in his eyes that he wanted to win, but also that he wanted me to not be standing next to him in the shower.
Later, I spoke with McDuffy, who I found wearing a cape and top hat as he walked to his Rolls Royce. Evidently being the most dominant team in CL history pays well. When prodded, he spoke out of his window as the car pulled away: "I would have loved to have played this game at the end of last season, but it should be interesting to see if we can keep it close and get some turnovers."
So there you have it. In just a few short hours these Titans of the Turf will meet to settle, once and for al--er, to settle, for at least another two weeks, just who really is the baddest team in all of CL.
