Well, the regular season is almost complete and the playoff bracket is mostly finalized. Troy and Night Lights have already asserted themselves as 1 seeds and Bluefield and Springfield are set as the 2 seeds.
The only seeds that are still in any kind of real contention is the West's 5 seed between Kcuf' and Chicago (although it's pretty much a forgone conclusion that Chicago will take the 5th seed).
Western conference
A big game is set between Minnesota and Troy. Both teams are pretty much in the same situation as both boosted early. Unfortunately for Minnesota they had a tough non-conference opponent to start the season and Troy played a CPU in week 1. If not for that Minnesota would be playing to force a three way tie-breaker between them, Troy, and Bluefield. As is stands now, Troy has locked the 1 seed and Minnesota is locked in as the 3 seed.
The Bluefield/Kcuf' looks like a big game on paper but their records are deceiving and this is definitely a tale of two teams. I sincerely believe that Bluefield with one loss and the 2 seed is the team to beat in the playoffs in the Western conference. Kcuf' has been in a pretty big tailspin the second half of the season and will most likely drop to the 6 seed after this game. Kcuf' has dropped 4 of their last 7 after starting the season 8-0.
The remaining playoff teams in the West will finish up against CPUs.
Eastern conference
The big games have all pretty much been played and the playoff seeding for all intent and purposes has concluded.
The only game of note in the East this week is South Pole @ Bay City. This game is pretty much just for bragging rights since both teams are locked in at their current seeds. This will conclude a tough portion of the schedule for both teams. South Pole just lost in a tough match-up with Springfield and Bay City is coming off convincing losses to Iowa City and Night Lights.
Predictions
Minnesota vs. Troy. I think this will be a close game but I give the edge to Troy. Minnesota dropped games to Springfield and Bluefield by a combined 133-10 earlier in the season even though they had a sizeable level advantage. Troy did have the win earlier this season over Bluefield. The deal with Minnesota is basically the same as it was with Bay City in the East. They have yet to beat a quality opponent this season and they are suspect until they do so. This is their chance to prove themselves before the playoffs.
My pick...Troy by 3 over the Purple People Eaters. Minnesota wins big against Troy handing them a 70-3 loss. Troy may be in serious trouble in the playoffs if they don't get certain aspects of their defense figured out.
Bluefield at Kcuf'. This game is a formality as I expect Bluefield to win easily and Chicago to move in as the 5 seed. I'm picking Bluefield to walk away with a 42 point win. Bluefield wipes Kcuf' off the map with a 100-6 victory.
South Pole at Bay City. South Pole looks to put their close loss to Springfield behind them and close out the regular season with a win. Bay City is trying to avoid beginning the playoffs on a three game losing streak. Sorry Bad Boys but it's not going to happen...South Pole by 30. South Pole takes it 28-7 in a game that admittedly was closer than I thought it would be.
