We should try to convince someone to do the legwork and compare the two ranking systems in terms of predictive value. Basically take the week 8 ranks and look at the winners of the week 9 games. Whichever system has less "upsets" is probably better.

Maybe I'll get bored next week.

Sounds like a good idea.

The only problem is this has the Headbangers higher than OR, who beat them 14-0 last night...

I can understand why some might not like the headbangers ranking, but at least we were competitive in the games we lost, some of those loses could of gone either way imo

Damn, our next 6 opponents are cupcake teams in my opinion (No offense guys). Then, The last 3 games are against the other 3 best teams in the conference. I bet they are going to boost. Going to be a interesting end of the season for the Tallahassee Beatdown.

Darkus doesn't gameplan in regular season that is why.

Sorry Headbangers, I didn't mean any disrespect. You gave us a really tough game, and you deserve to be ranked high. Just not as high as us, IMO, hehe.

I think situations like this are why other factors go into the overall ranking that Gong's system is using.

So Gong's system spits out some number that represents our O and D history and the SOS. He determines rank by putting those numbers in order from largest to smallest.

Could we try using Wackad00's method on the raw numbers from Gong's system, rather than the rankings? Then rank based on that output?

For example, lets hypothetically say the script gives OR 100 in D and 90 in O. That leaves us at number 1 in D and number 10 in O. If SAS comes in with 90 D to get second and has 100 in O to get 1st...then we would actually be a lot closer in O than the rank would imply. It just happens there're 10 or more teams with similar O stats, but apparently more spread in the D stats. So the raw numbers (90s and 100s in this hypothetical example) would give OR a more realistic rank than the product of average ranks and SOS. Does that make any sense to anybody else but me? haha

No disrespect taken. I just knew the difference between Gongs and Wacks rankings in regards to our team was gonna be brought up sooner or later. Regardless of the outcome I'm having fun this season, beats playing against half CPU teams in copper

I understand what you are saying, I use the same ranking plugin as Gong to compile the initial numbers.

So your saying that we use the outcome of the plugin that Gong and I are using to determine Power Ranking, Then use my formula to take it one step further for Overall Rankings. Please go let me know if I am misunderstanding.

It does seem to do a pretty good job on the overall ranking, but is somewhat flawed in the power ranking area.
I will work on an updated formula for the Power Rankings to see if it produces better results.

I do appreciate everyone's input, this was not intend to replace Gong's rankings, am just trying to see if I can come up with something new. The plugin just seems to be so erratic at times.

The ranking script baffles me sometimes with the numbers it comes up with. I wonder if it's bugs or if the script knows something I don't.
