Not to step on Gong's toes, he does a fabulous job with the rankings.

I too have the ranking plugin he is using, and am just testing out some tweaks in this thread.

It will display Power Rankings and League Rankings

Power Rankings are determined by averaging the Offensive and Defensive ranking, then dividing the SOS by that Average.
(Example: San Antonio Saviours are ranked 2 on Offense and 3 on defense. So the average would be 2.5. If you take the SOS and divide it by that average you will get the Power Ranking.

League Rankings are determined by taking the Power Ranking and multiplying it by (wins+.01).
(Example: San Antonio Saviours Power Ranking is .02, when multipled by (wins+.01) you receive the Overall League Ranking.

I will post what each of these formulas produce for you all to review and comment on. So far they seem to be producing some reasonable results.

In all seriousness, I welcome alternate ranking systems. I used three different systems last season in Copper 14, but I was never completely happy with any of them and they were all time consuming. The best ranking system would be one that predicted the future, so if your ranking system accurately predicts the winners of most of the games, it's pretty good.

One problem I see with your league ranking formula is that you will have no way to compare the winless teams to one another, and a winless team who's had a very difficult schedule will be worse than a team that's had only one win on a very easy schedule. You could mitigate that somewhat by using (wins+1) instead of just (wins) in your calculation.

Looking at the power rankings, I think the Dallas Cool Arrows are too low. The top few teams are pretty good, but after that it's kind of a mishmash. I dunno if I could do any better though. Just eyeballing the league it looks like:
First Tier: OR, SAS, TB, AAW, and maybe one of the MMs
Second Tier: HB, STARS, Penguin, the other MM, Gondwana, HHF, DPWF, Darkus, Oahu, Mailmen, and Rockwall
Third Tier: some other teams including CPU Dallas Cool Arrows (though they'll fall as the season progresses)
Fourth Tier: The predominantly CPU teams

True the Cool Arrows show low on the power ranking, however that changes in the Overall rankings when Win/loss is calculated. However I believe you are correct in the win+1 so winless teams can be ranked. I will re-run an see what effect it has overall.

Issue I run into by adding wins+1 is that I am counting the tie as .5, so ranking do change some in the middle do to this. Still hashing it out to see if there is an alternative.

Ok I think I got it. As to not effect ranking to drastically, Overall will be determine by Power Ranking x(Wins+.01)

I will edit rankings based on this new formula.
