Regular Season Result: 23-7 Bangkok
The Seamen had a fantastic season this year and are definitely the team to beat in the playoffs on the Alpha side. The Seamen defense is what really won the game in the first battle between these 2 teams shutting Phuket All out until under 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter. If the Seamen are able to get their 1st ranked run offense rolling, this could be a long game for Phuket All.
Phuket All knows how to win games and pull upsets as they did so last season beating the then #2 seed NE Partisans. This team boasts one of the best overall offenses being ranked 3rd in run offense and 5th in pass offense and will certainly need more production than last game from both if they plan on winning this game. They have scored no less than 22 points in any game since their loss to the Seamen, we'll see if that trend continues this week.
Prediction: Phuket All pulls off the upset 23-21
#2 New England Partisans vs. #3 Taiwan Royals
Regular Season Result: 26-19 New England
New England was able to avenge their loss last year to the Royals by defeating them this season. They have been dominant this season with just one lone loss to the #1 seeded Bangkok Seamen earlier in the season. They have averaged 60.6 points per game in the last 5 games.
Taiwan is still the champion until proven otherwise...and that means knocking them out of this years playoffs. They have also been on an offensive rampage since these 2 teams last met scoring more than 40 points in every game since then. This has the makings of a shootout with both teams being top 3 in passing offense.
Prediction: Taiwan proves they're still on top 31-27
Zeta Conference:
#1 Bangkok Tweetys vs. #4 Aussie Battlers
Regular Season Result: 27-9 Bangkok
The Tweetys should feel confident in this post season boasting the only unbeaten record of any team in all of the SE Asia Pro League. The defense has been the story for this team all year allowing just 5.9 points per game on the season. They easily handled the Beach Bums in the first round but now have a much tougher test against the Battlers in the 2nd.
The Battlers proved they could hang with the top teams by beating the Colonels in their game against them and definitely have the talent to pull off this upset. They struggled a bit later in the year losing to the Ducks and Panthers late, but have the potential to bounce back in what is looking like a pretty close matchup at first glance.
Prediction: Tweetys continue their winning ways 24-10
#2 Kentucky Colonels vs. #3 Haiphong Hitmen
Regular Season Result: 16-13 Kentucky
Kentucky has proved all of the doubters wrong all season by losing just 2 games all season and finishing with the #2 seed in the playoffs. They pretty easily handled the Ducks in their first round but the 2nd round will likely be a dogfight between 2 closely matched teams.
Haiphong has had some tough losses this year to both the Tweetys (by 13) and Colonels (by 3) but are definitely a competitive team that has a chance to make a run. Solidly beat the Knights in round 1 and are looking for some revenge on the blemishes in their record in round 2.
Prediction: Not going to predict this one...not really all that unbiased...haha
