have you considered just splitting off the CPL as it stands as a separate public forum?

the CPL is not your standard league forum. and regardless of whether or not that's a good thing, why try to coerce a square peg into a round hole? crafting custom rules not only seems like a self-imposition, but won't really solve any of the problems in the first place -- unless the CPL seriously wants to adopt the universal forum rules and turn into a GG central.

i realize that the CPL is your league forum and thus you have a claim to post there and shouldn't just be shuffled to the side because it's convenient for GLB. but the CPL is also the league forum for other people in the league... and evidently they feel robbed of the type of experience that they prefer (even if that's the type of experience you definitely don't).

i'm just wondering if splitting off the CPL as it stands as a separate public forum (maybe even just as a subforum?) would not only solve everything, but actually allow you guys even greater freedom... you could have whatever mini-mods you wanted and there would be an end to lockfests and pointless bans.

just a thought from an outsider's perspective.

It really isn't that hard to get along with people, you just have to avoid being stupid or taking things too seriously (reference: http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=2774295 ).

With that said, I can understand the frustrations of those users who come here looking for the standard league forum experience. You are used to this formula:
1) 1/2 guys post power rankings each week: people discuss how they deserve to be #1 with slightly masked insults or overly painful compliments.

2) 7 new 'GG' threads for each week of play that occurs.

3) 1, maybe 2, off-topic threads, probably still somehow circularly related to the game.

4) There is probably one team that everybody hates, and you insult them behind their backs.

Other than those few things, a normal league forum in this game just doesn't provide a whole lot of interest. I joined two new teams this off-season; I don't even know what leagues they are in because the forums are not that fascinating. Actually, I did venture into one of them, and it was a lot of people yelling at each other about who had the better team (quite rudely, in fact). It was not a good time. There wasn't even anything interesting going on. Once again, I urge you, reference: http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=1093160

Now, I am fully aware that there are two sides to this coin. I personally feel that CPL has achieved a good mix of GLB seriousness mixed with fun. However, this was slightly compromised when late last night, Stobie (one of 3 moderators who are here, mind you. Note that CPL has no issues with any 'serious' rules being broken like pornography.) admitted that the power rankings were a farce. Shameful.

But I digress. Here is my solution. Leave CPL as it is. It isn't hurting anyone. Except that guy who's own GM's hated him, but I think we can all agree that was for the best. In addition, add a new sub-forum at the top of the page. Entitle it, "serious dot-ball talk," or something similiar. Within those bounds, CPL-lite is like any other forum, and the rules will be followed. Therein, be free to discuss anything you like as in a normal league forum. GG's will flow aplenty, and there will be mirth, and maybe some laughter.

TLR - read the bolded parts.

Also, I think FLgator is just cranky that someone here already does power rankings.

An idea that's been kicked around but... well, keep in mind, a lot of CPLers are more dot-related than you might think. And more dot-related stuff happens in PCL than it gets credit for. Furthermore, there is some aspect of new people coming in and people from other parts of GLB etc.

Plus, that's certainly not in GLB's interest. That happens and suddenly forum activity drops by 900% and almost an entire pro league starts going inactive. I see the reason you suggest it, but I'm not sure it's really what CPL wants and I'm not sure it's great for GLB.

i'm not taking a stance on whether the CPL is awesome or not.

the point is that there are obviously unsolved problems here (hence this PF)... and crafting custom rules flat-out won't solve those problems.

at least, that's how i see it.

i appreciate (and anticipate) that stance... but it seems that everyone in the league should get a vote, even the ones that are too scared/disgusted to post currently.

or perhaps the CPL needs a GG subforum?

PCL.

it's not the dot-related stuff that's an issue. it's that there are two different cultures of conduct here... and they have intractable positions.

so either you banish one (which is what we've currently got), or you make a forum for each. heck, it doesn't have to be a situation where one is a subforum of the other... make them both co-subforums of an empty league forum or something.

there are ways to accomplish the segregation without it being a political statement.

I think that is kind of a lame solution tbh

If I get recruited into USAPL, should they take all of the GG spam to a subforum so that I can talk about TF2? Kind of ridiculous that people get promoted into CPL, and expect the forum and culture to change for them. I can almost understand them whining about insults...even though honestly, they should grow a pair and realize that it's the fucking internet...but it's ridiculous to get pissed off and want the forum to be solely dotball talk.

People aren't goin gto start going to two different forums for the same community. That's retarded.

Nooooo my suggestion was basically what you proposed, except in reverse.

CPL stays, and a new sub-forum is created for people to chat about their dots.

This isn't FFA; people don't flock to CPL just cause they feel like it. The people who post in CPL (for the most part) actually have some form of vested interest in the league. It'd be lame to make CPL an entirely different forum (plus it would attract all kinds of riff-raff, street-rats, aladdin, etc).
