but arena is different rules and and less players... this is 11v11 same rules... just a smaller roster, and maybe some OOP coding changes... either way its a ton less work than an entirely new league

The programmers don't even have enough time to properly code "American" American football, and you'd ask for variations on it? I recommend either prayer or learning how to program if you want to see that.

Iron-man leagues, though, would be cool. That would just be setting a depth-chart limitation; no new positions would need to be created and no game-sim code would have to be re-written.

I think there's three ways to go with the "OOP" (out of position) penalties

1) You could minimize them just for this league, which would probably be a coding nightmare. But you would still get a penalty for playing out of position. So is a HB/LB better off being built from a HB base or a LB base? I'm sure there would be lots of theories thrown around, and another part of the strategy evolves.

2) You could eliminate the OOP, which might also be a pain, but would relieve the stress of figuring out the above strategies.

3) You could keep them just the way they are, no change needed, and have that be another part of the strategy.

Personally, I would like #1 the best, but I'd be content with any of the three options just to get a league like this

I think there is also a 4th way to go with it... you could have OOP for certain positions... a QB would not have an oop for FS, but would for a DT... likewise a WR would be able to play Cb with no penalty but would suffer one in the LB slot

There is this way, too.

The arguments against it would be that it would be the first step toward new iron man cookie cutter players, and that trying to get something too complex added into an Iron Man League would actually just guarantee that it'll never get done.

but what about seeing a QB play MLB, they already have str right? so it wouldnt be a stretch to see them play a couple positions... and having elusive backs be SS or whatever, i think it would promote just as much customization

Yep, definitely not disagreeing with that. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think this idea probably works no matter which way you go with the OOPs, and the most likely way to get it done is to pitch it with the least amount of changes needed.

Perhaps we could start with the OOPs and then at some point down the road when there aren't so many more pressing changes needed in the actual game, the OOPs could be minimized or eliminated for certain combos.

I say keep the OoPP but limit the number of players and add a script to make sure that each player is on the 2-deep at any given position.

Energy tactics could be exploited to keep the offensive players on offense and defensive players on defense if the team has enough players, so that's why we'd need those controls.

If you limit the entire roster to 15 players, you don't need to worry about energy tactics or exploits.

Even in an Iron Man league, you could still have a couple of players that are just offense and a couple that are just defense. Maybe a guy who's just kicker/punter. It would be up to each owner/GM to figure out how to best fill those 15 slots.

Keep up the good work. This is a great idea.

I wonder what the build strategies would be? We'd probably never see an attribute above 50 except speed and strength.

I want my punter to be my QB... then i would run a fake punt lol... but seriously would be neat

Yep, I can imagine getting an attribute to a second cap would be a luxury. Some of the unique builds we could end up seeing would be the biggest selling point, I would think.

Interesting concept. I'd just point out that if you all are serious about proceding with this, the BEST way of getting there is asking ONE thing and ONE thing only of Bort--a roster limit. If you go beyond that and ask for even minor coding tweaks, you're cutting into the development of the regular game since Bort refuses to delegate and/or hire.

I agree this is definitely the best way to pitch it.

i would be ok with OOP, because it would make people pick their team specialty... am i going to sign CB's to play WR? or Sign WR's to play CB?
