I'll get to the point right away to save people some time.
The problem:
In real American Football, scrambling isn't just running for the 1st-down marker. In GLB as it currently stands, it is. Going outside the pocket to try and both evade an incoming defender AND give time for receivers to get open is almost nonexistent in the game, and the current "scramble" settings are severely incomplete in this manner.
The sollution:
Either another option to complement the "scramble almost never, sometimes, often" or a slider. It could be (to cut a long story short, pass scrambling or run scrambling - and yes, I know these terms don't exist. Bare with me for a moment).
A more detailed suggestion for the 2nd scramble option would be:
- When scrambling, allways go outside the pocket to make a pass
- When scrambling, go outside the pocket to make a pass, but check for possible run options
- When scrambling, check for pass options and run options
- When scrambling, try to go for the run, but check for possible pass options
- when scrambling, allways go for the run
Analysis of the solution:
On the gameplay aspect, it would cater both to the realism fan crowd out there and the people who are here for fun regardless of realism, as it would add depth and variety to the game.
On the coding aspect, it would be simple to code in a vision check (high vision requirement, of course) for the QB to see where the defense is less likely to be a nuisance, thus dictating the direction of the movement, considering the scrambling options noted above.
Right now, the game has pocket passers and rusher QBs. Scramblers are simply PPs who sometimes go for the run, which is simply incomplete. Would fran tarkenton have been what he was if he only ran for the first down? He moved to get the pass done, not only the run, and that aspect of the game is completely absent on GLB.
All in all, it would not necessarily make the offense stronger, if well balanced, and would certainly make the minority of people here that like this type of QB happy. Not a high-priority suggestion, but something fun nonetheless.
What do you guys think?
