The Kentucky Enquirer
Week 4- Western Conference
By: Mike Concho

On Saturday, the Daggers knew they had to win if they wanted to be a front runner for the Western title and that's exactly what they did. Portland (4-0) came from behind in the 4th quarter to sneak up on the Denver Globetrotters (3-1) 24-17. The Foot (digitialdaggers, POR) booted a 37 yard field goal for the lone score of the 1st quarter. Denver bounced right back with a 2 yard touchdown run by Bushwaka JOHNSON (D-will, DEN) making the score 7-3. The Daggers were able to take a halftime lead at 10-7 when Jade Falcon (digitialdaggers, POR) found The Natural (MrBlazer7, POR) for a 4 yard touchdown pass with 3:22 remaining in the half.
The second half started off slow for both teams but Denver broke through near the end of the 3rd quarter when Terence Hargrove (CPU, DEN) threw an 8 yard bullet to Jeremiah Pease (CPU, DEN) in the endzone. The Globetrotters continued that momentium into the 4th quarter where Jack Elam (D-will, DEN) made a 35 yarder to give the Globetrotters a 17-10 lead, but Portland bounced back. The Daggers tied it up with 5 minutes to play when Flacon found TE Patrick Owens (Coolwhip, POR) in the endzone for 6. The Daggers defense held the Globetrotters and forced them to punt. On the following drive, Johnny Storm (Wolfman, POR) ran it from 3 yards out with only 50 seconds left to play. The Foot then booted his league-leading 12th extra point to give the Daggers a 7 point lead. The last ditch effort by the Globetrotters fell short when a Hail Mary pass was intercepted by Blair Corbett (CPU, POR) as time expired.
D-will said after the game, "Although we lost I'm still proud of our team and our organization, but we'll be waiting for the Daggers in the Western Championship Game!" Digitialdaggers has not reponded to any phone calls.

The Tan Surfers of America (TSA)'s Offensive and Defensive Players of the Game were First and Last Name Comma Please (username, DEN) and Antonie Newby (CPU, DEN). Comma Please had 12 pancakes to extend his league lead. Newby had 6 tackles to go along with 6 deflected passes.

The Somer Gos came into Saturday expecting a win against the lowly Gunslingers but their offense stalled and Houston (1-3) took advantage beating the Somers Gos (1-3) 10-7. The entire first half was scorless and featured 2 interceptions of Leland Tyler (CPU, HOU) passes. The 3rd quarter was a snooze-fest except for a 25 yard touchdown pass from Tyler to Avery Crowell (CPU, HOU) to give the Gunslingers a 7-0 lead. The action finally picked up with 2:20 left to play when Kicky McKickface (Bort, HOU) launched a 43 yarder down the middle of the uprights for a comfortable 10 point lead. The Somers Gos scored just 1 minute later on a 7 yard pass from Kolton Rodriguez (CPU, SG) to Broderick Grace (CPU, SG) to bring them to within three, but Houston ran out the clock on the final possesion to secure the win.
"I know we had this game won, but we didn't show up ready to play and it showed," says bolstersam. "We have a lot to prove this season and that will be tough to do if we keep playing like this." Bort commented "We were really hoping Kicky would come through for us, and he delivered. Avery came up big too. It was a tough contest, and we're just happy to come away with the win."

The Applachian Beer's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Game are Avery Crowell and Elvis Sawyer (CPU, HOU). Crowell recorded 9 receptions for 105.5 yards and a touchdown. Sawyer received credit for 3 takles, 2 deflected passes, and an interception returned for 1 yard.
