(Belgrade, Serbia) - In an effort to more positively connect with their fans, the Belgrade Bulldogs of Western Europe A #7 have renamed their stadium from "The Pit" to "The Balkan Gate."

The team held a contest during the offseason where players nominated new stadium names. Three rounds of voting resulted in the players selecting The Balkan Gate as the name of the new stadium.

"We wanted to make sure we reflected the community that so greatly supports us," said team owner Dick Sycamore. "We've also developed a tight-knit family on the Bulldogs with many of the players staying with us through three lean seasons and wanted to give them a voice in the decision."

The winning name was submitted by quarterback Dudley Dawson. Dawson will receive an unspecified monetary prize for submitting the winning name.

"It was extra special that Dudley submitted the name," said Sycamore. "He's one of the players that was here from the beginning. He was one of the very first recruits and really knows how this team rose from the ashes."

The other two finalists were Il Basso Loco (The Dark Place) and The Kennel. Names that were considered included The Pound, Stadion Partizana, Archduke Franz Ferdinand Memorial Stadium, and eneral Draza Mihailovic Memorial Stadium.
