CITY OF CHAMPIONS UPDATE

Welcome to the 1st edition of the City of Champions Update, a look into the happenings within both of Brisbane’s champion football teams.

Indeed, since the Brisbane Bandits won the Oceania AAA League Championship, they moved up to the Pro League where the Brisbane Gods won that League’s Championship.
So, now we have two Champions in the city.

The owners of both teams thought it would be a good idea to join forces, in a public relations manner, and provide the good people of Brisbane some interesting behind-the-scenes tidbits about their respective teams. So without further ado, here is some info about the Gods.

The Gods lost their star CB, Cordell Walker, in the off-season and felt that they received less than market value for him. But they did so in order to accommodate the player’s wish to join the Bel Air Beardogs in one of the lower USA leagues, where he also took a GM position. They would like it known that they are looking to add a high level CB to replace him and are willing to pay the price.

In other player news, the Gods have tapped a high level LB to join their team when his current contract expires later this week. The Gods’ star QB, Risto Matley, told the Brisbane media that he expects to “set an unbreakable all-time record for the most passing yards in a 16 game season” on the heels of an impressive 400+ yard passing performance.

The Brisbane Bandits, meanwhile, have recently made a few blockbuster deals. The first of these involved disgruntled WR Bernard Blaze, who wanted to join a more pass-happy offense, and camp holdout LB Felix Adames, both of whom were traded to the Canadian AA level Moose Jaw Marauders in exchange for star CB Justin Straub, who will start right away. The arrival of Straub created a logjam at the position, so the Bandits then traded away CB Stickem Hayes to the New Orleans Swampdogs of the USA A#5 League, where Hayes’ agent is the owner. The Bandits got a lower level DE and some cash in return.

After last season’s Pro Championship win, fans are understandably going wild and, according to Gods management, have purchased in the neighbourhood of 500K on food, drinks and merchandise. Meanwhile, The Bandits management announced that off-season stadium upgrades went well, new seats have been added and construction is completed. The recently renamed Brisbane Bunker now holds up to 30K seats, including 1000 club seats, and another expansion is planned for the next off-season.

That’s all for today. Join us again for the next edition of the City of Champions Update in a few days.
