CAMDEN, NJ—Coming off of a 3-13 record and a season in which the defense finished 28th in the USA Pro league, it was obvious that a change was needed for the Camden Outkasts.

Last night that change came as the team introduced BaseballGuyCAA as their new defensive coordinator.

The pick came mostly as a shock to most insiders, who felt that the team would go with a more experienced candidate to try and shore up a defense that gave up 49.7 points per game this past season.

But team owner slyaggie defended his decision.

“He really knocked us over with his interview,” slyaggie said. “He came in with a plan. He knew where we were, he knew where he wants us to be, and he knew how he was going to get there. I was floored listening to him talk.”

Critics still panned the decision to bring in a defensive coordinator with no experience above the USA BBB level at a time when the team is staring relegation in the face.

“That team is in dire straits,” one league insider said on the condition of anonymity. “They needed someone with a track record of high-level success, and they brought in someone who is going to find out over the next few days that he is in way over his head.”

“It doesn’t matter who they bring in,” a team spokesman said. “They’re getting relegated next year unless they start bringing in better players by the boatload.”

Which, ironically, is exactly BaseballGuyCAA’s plan.

“Last year is out of sight, out of mind,” he said. “What happened then no longer matters. We’re knocking this thing down, then building it back up. And that includes personnel.”

“The bottom line is, we need to get better. And we have the money to bring in better players. I’ve already been searching high and low for potential additions to our team.”

He stated that he didn’t expect to be successful from the get-go, though.

“Look at what I did with the [Ditka’s] Army,” he said. “My first year there, we were terrible. But a year later, we’re a playoff team. And we’re only improving.”

This, too, might have played a big influence in this hiring. Ditka’s Army, in the year before BaseballGuyCAA arrived as defensive coordinator, was 3-13. Two years later, they are 9-7 and secured a playoff berth in the USA BBB #5 league.

“He’s done it before, and that’s huge,” slyaggie said. “There aren’t a lot of coaches who can think with that mentality of ‘okay, we have to make something out of nothing.’ There are a lot of guys who can take a good program and make it great. There are not a lot who can take a bad program and make it good, and he’s one of those guys. And we’re thrilled we managed to get him on board.”

ADVERTISMENT: The Camden Outkasts are currently looking for dedicated, high-level players for the defensive side of the ball. If you boost every year, have custom equipment, stay active, and are interested in being a part of a Pro League team that is committed to winning, contact BaseballGuyCAA.
