Back Yard Boys struggle in Home Opener!!

The Back Yard is quiet now after the debut loss to the San Antonio Rahls. In front of a sold out crowd of 8600 people the Back Yard Boys just couldn’t put enough points on the board to pull out a victory. Rookie QB Nate Montana struggled going 27/44 for 209 yards and 2 ints, and ended up picking splinters on the bench after his playing time was reduced in the 3rd Quarter. The game was a back and forth struggle that really was won by two long pass plays in the first half. The Boys put together several drives that showed glimpses of the dominant passing game they could have, but ultimately turnovers put an end to several of those drives and cost them the game. Aaron Timpson led the Boys on offense with 10 catches for 81 yards but no touchdowns but the one time Superbowl Champion from the Southeast Asia league wasn’t satisfied.

“It doesn’t matter how much production I have it wasn’t enough to win the game. I dropped a pass which is inexcusable. Our team is coming together but we have a ways to go. I hope management continues to work hard to fix the confusion in our gameplanning. We got beat by a flat out better team.” – Aaron Timpson WR

Poor game management seemed to be the culprit for the Boys struggles. Most of the starters were forced to play special teams the whole game for what is rumored to be a strange disciplinary measure used by the rookie coach. Although the front office denies it, reports out of the locker room are that in an effort to teach the team humility Coach Walsh had the star players do a the dirty work. Coach Walsh defended his decision at the press conference after the game.

“You can’t have guys running around on the field thinking they are the only thing on the team that matters. Nothing teaches the importance of working together as a unit like special teams does. If one guy doesn’t do his job, their guy can take it to the house, or our guy gets smashed and we fumble. I don’t think we lost the game cause our starters played special teams, we lost the game because of turnovers and no running game. When you run the ball 13 times for minus 8 yards you are going to lose.” – George Walsh coach

The leader of the secondary affectionately called Prime Time by the fans and players echoed the coach’s sentiments saying that the responsibility of the loss falls on all the players.

“We have had a lot of new additions. We have adjustments to make. 24 points was obviously too much. That is a reflection on all of us. We are only as strong as our weakest link.” - Prime Time CB

Amid the struggles there was a lot to be excited about. Rookie DE Styles McGee had a monster game racking up 8 tackles (3 for losses) and 2 forced fumbles. The newest playboy to the Back Yard seemed encouraged after the game.

“I don't have much to say this week peeps. I am excited to get the season started & hope all the ladies noticed Styles doing what he does best. By the way I will be hanging out tomorrow afternoon at my newest "McGee's Salon" for autographs. Anyways, our front office is focused on building a winning team and I'm just stoked that they chose me to build a team around. Peace out yo!" – Styles Mcgee DE

The Boys go on the road tomorrow to see if they can’t get their first win against the “Atomic Wedgies”. While they are away 1000 new seats will be added to The Back Yard to accommodate the growing number of fans. With the addition of 4 new players and several new coaches quarterback Nate Montana is confident they can come out with a win.

“Yeah we struggled last week but you have to put that behind you. The point is to go out and give it your best. Hopefully your best is enough to win. Last week it wasn’t but we have been working hard and I think we have gotten better. As long as we keep getting better we can expect to see success down the road.” – Nate Montana QB
