You all wake up and prepare to head for your audience with the Emperor. The Emperor is the direct descendent of the sun goddess Amaterasu and thus you all swear fealty to him. But it has been a long time since the Emperor has held a military role, with all control of the military going to the regional daimyos. This is why you all now struggle to determine which daimyo is strong enough to rule the military of Nihon and will be decreed Shogun.
After yesterday's indecisive discussion lead to the non-elimination of Primate, you vow that today will be different. You put on your robes, grab your ceremonial wakizashis, and head for the Emperor's Court.
On the way there, your group begins milling together. But something is different. You notice a few people are missing: DMF and schrauben. Wondering, your group heads to DMF's first to see what has happened to him. His door lies open, so you enter, You find him lying on the floor of his quarters, not far from the front door, a stab wound through his chest. You begin to mill about his room, trying to find clues as to what happened. You find DMF has the daisho dual-sword set that indicates him as one of the samurai nobility, the noble warriors who serve their daimyos faithfully (and frequently die for them). The hilt of each sword are marked with crest of Clan Tozama.
DMF was Samurai Ii Naomasa, loyal retainer of Daimyo Tozama Katahide
You decide to then head to schrauben's. Again, his door is open. You look into the room and everything appears normal, except for schrauben. It appears schrauben was home, quietly reading, when someone came in behind him and cut off his head with a single slice of a katana. Who could do such a thing? You begin to search for clues, but find nothing amiss. schrauben appears to have been a peasant farmer with no affiliation.
schrauben was ashigaru
With the rest of you remaining, you continue on to your audience with the Emperor.
