I'm in a Casual league and I've always had trouble defending against rushing QB's. I have tried the tagged preset and tagging their QB's as rushers with no success at all. Would I be better off using a "No Preset" and setting 4 or 5 for the "Max Number of QB Spys"? Any other ideas on how to defend?

Thanks!

Tagging works fine, but you have to have a good anti-RQB play to call when the tag activates. Also, don't simply tag on archetype, look at the bars to see how the rushing bar compares to the throwing bar and also look at how many passes vs rushes this RQB does.

Also consider what a RQB is likely to do if they don't run with it. You are likely to see a lot of rushing plays, screens, and short passes, so make sure your defense factors those in as well.

I'm in a casual league so I honestly don't even know how the tagging preset works since I cant set up specific plays when tagged players ore on the field. I heard it does work in casual just not sure how. I don't think I have the options your talking about though.

Thanks for the tips though, Ill take a closer look at their offensive scouting and see whats going on with their QB's and what different plays they are running.

It seems like a lot of teams in casual are going with RQB's. I'm also thinking its because there is almost no way to run a great defense on them with the limited options we have.

The tagged preset works, yes. It's especially useful if you face a team with an RQB and PQB,

If you want to use a non preset, try 100 zone, 100 medium, 100 run, set max spies to 2, play a 3-4, play balanced, and try spies at RILB, LILB (3 LB sets) and MLB, SS (non 3 LB sets). So, set ILBs to 100 and MLB, SS to 100. If they throw at all, remove the SS.

Profit.

This defense has been termed as "the magic defense" in cas.

Wish I would've stayed casual

Casual: 30 minutes on my iPhone and done.

Competitive: Day after day, scouting, AI planning, playmaking, more scouting, Output after output after output after output after output... Then you get to watch the score, hopefully you won then more replays and more of the same.

things do calm down once you have established a solid DAI template to work with and have a good understanding of it ...you will prolly eventually realize that you don't need so many inputs and outputs and then start 'streamlining' it

I sure hope so, seems like I never have enough plays for what I need. It has gotten much better
But I do have about 5 inputs for each formation.... It's taxing to stay competitive.

Unfortunately that is the nature of the beast. If everyone could get things setup perfectly and be done with then everyone would have awesome defenses by now. The tax you pay is what makes one an above average defense and wins the close ones. I doubt you would truely wish it to be less taxing as more people would have awesome defenses

it's not about how many inputs you have but if the inputs are effective .
a good OC will exploit any input(s) that's mediocre.

Curious, assuming that 5 inputs are not "nearly" identical or following the same basic principals, I don't see how an OC can really exploit an input given that the exploit would only work roughly 20% of the time.

That being said though, typically the best thing you can do is be aggressive in my opinion. I tend to have at minimum 2 defensive plays for any formation. Each of them leave open an intentional easy to spot exploit but both of them do so in an area that the other defensive formation over protects on. So if an OC falls into the exploitation trap, they might get 2 to 3 successful hits on you before your AI auto-correction kicks in and starts favoring the other defense more often and the OC is more likely to continue doing the same play if his AI is on because of the success so he will end up continuing to try and do that play far more often after it fails to work before the AI can undo the favoritism it did.

I don't know that I have anything with 5 defenses for any given formation but I have dreamed of getting that creative. Though with the whole GLB2 thingy now, my dreams do seem a bit futile and a complete motivational killer.

I just tried this Casual D and gave up over 1000 yds rushing. What did I do wrong? http://glb.warriorgeneral.com/game/game.pl?game_id=2722119

honestly, the def settings are not the problem. there are other factors at work. i don't know who manonthemoon is, but disastermaster is a great dot builder and coach. at the beginning levels, there isn't a huge difference between boosted and unboosted. you have people that are inactive and cpu's on your roster. and rush addict is a team that's completely built for rushing. that's incredibly difficult to stop in casual (heck, it is even in regular). if you had a really well-built team, you probably would have done better.
