Obviously you have to look at replays to know who is picking up blitzers or not making it out to get in front of the runner on sweeps etc. But within the context of judging from the box score....
In looking at the statistics of a game what matters when comparing dot performance (say to choose who should start or be released moved etc). If one matters for pass blocking but not run blocking, include that in the discussion.
The way I see it -
Pancake. Everything I have heard is that this is not important. Yet there the stat is and in run plays the dot that cakes a defender can move to cake again. Seems pretty important to judge run blocking performance. Only measure we really have since "Held Blocks" is not a stat for some reason. Fare assessment? Your opinion?
Revcake. Everything I have heard is that this is not relevant as it often happens after the play passes by. While a pass blocker on his butt is no longer pass blocking, that should be picked up in hurries and sacks. Might help tell you your guy needs weight to avoid morale ruination. But generally I concur that this is a mean nothing stat. Do you?
Hurries. This would seem to be a big deal to me when judging pass blocking. Indeed I add them and sacks and treat it as one number. Or are lolhurries not important?
Sacks. With Hurries the true judge of a pass blocker (or pass rusher). Or is it the ONLY measure of them? Or is there something in the replays that surpasses either in importance?
Whatchya think? How do YOU compare your O Line men?
